will there be a way of having 2 characters with different accounts have the same last name if you own both accounts, yet restrict the name from others?

Yes.

Once your name is registered, you will be able to determine who can use it.

Right, that's what I'm saying, how can it be determined that its OK or not. I don't think those are bad things to use, oh heck. Dunno. I would like it to be done though, I think the last name mechanics will be great.

my question is... can the CM be fixed to where you can pick one of it's "suggested" names and not have to change it again afterwords. A perfect example:

girlfriend went into CM the other day and made a new character. She asked me for a name, I gave her "Trogus" it was used, it suggested "Ement" as a possible alternate, she chose it, went on to the next step, then it told her she had to change it because it was a bad name.

While we're on it, the SGE seems to have a bug in it too because after she found a legit name that the CM let her have, "Ement" still shows up in the character list for the SGE when she logs into it

Wow. That's a lot of players to upset and a lot of circles down the drain. <shudder> Sure, probably some of them are just mules, but I wonder how many of them are 50+ circle. Ouch.

Ok, sometimes I like watching train wrecks, like say American Idol. However, this one I don't know if I want to see.

What if the characters are on the same account though? Initially the thought process was along the lines of you having to go in with the other character you wanted to allow to have the name. Admittedly I haven't kept up with the latest thoughts on this.

Yes, there is a Rename Room already coded into the system. Simply changing the name of a character does not require deletion of said character.

Ok, here's a stumper..

Older character o' mine, same as I got but with different spelling. I want to go back to my old spelling, but not sure if it's cleared from system to be allowed or not.

Also,

Someone in the game has the last name I want.. I'd like to have some way of tracking them down to bug em to let me use their last name (again, old old char of mine had it, it did get cleared in a wipe and i want to use it again)

Any insight?

P.S. If your last name is Stormfall, I want to see ya.

From what I understood... if you didn't want a last name... you didn't have to have one.

This may sound like somewhat of a silly question, but is said 'Rename Room already coded into the system' accessible in game, or does it simply exist for testing purposes at the moment?

...five?

It certainly has not been five years since the removal of the ability to create a surname.

Maybe two and a half, three?

No. It was 2003. 7/31/2003, is the post date.

http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=20&category=1&topic=25&message=550

Note this:

Beginning next Thursday (after we take the games down and load the new core mechanics in), all NEW characters that are created in DR will have NO last name. When a new character is created, they'll only be asked for a first name and will then proceed into the Character Manager as usual.

Oh. And I meant I've been last name less for about five years because of when I stopped playing before.
Further, does anyone know if there is going to be some sort of advanced premium benefit when this is introduced, or if it'll affect everyone in the same way? Just curious.

That still doesn't make sense since it was possible to have a last name up until approximately August 7th, 2003.

I dunno maybe you're just wording it weird...

I'll just go puzzle over Prydaens and their hair patterns.

I guess I've just never understood all the fuss...

I have characters that I rolled several years ago who have last names only because the system at that time required them. I'd actually prefer that they didn't have them.

I only have one or two characters that I've rolled within the last couple years that I think probably should have a last name - but it just isn't that big a deal to me ...

But I do hope the system gets finished for those who want them so badly. :)

I think he just lives in an alternate reality where time flows very differently :)

Even if you stopped playing 5 years ago - you could still get a last name from the character manager up until roughly 2.5 years ago. You really can't count the time you were on break while last names were still available as 'not being able to have a last name'.

Hehe, yeah I think I'm wording it weird.
It's not a big deal really. I'm not disputing the time of the change, I was just trying to say I used to have a character before the change took place, with a last name. I stopped playing with this character and started after the change with a new character, without a last name. Thus I (as a player) have been without a last name for my characters since I quit five years back (which is what I was trying to say, in weird wording)
Anyhow... I eagerly await its return.
