White Haven in cooperation with the Mentors at Silverwood Manor are holding a lockpicking contest using the Contraption of old which has been repaired. The contest will be help on Friday Febuary 25th at 9PM eastern standard time. The contest will be held at Silverwood Manor so going to the one in your town or the closest town with a Silverwood Manor will take you there. A game-wide announcement will be sent as a reminder.

We have decided on five groups
0-20
20-40
40-60
60-80
80-100

With prizes being for each group
1st place - 1 million silvers
2nd place 500 thousand silvers
3rd place - 250 thousand silvers

There is another prize of 500,000 silvers that any smith has a chance to win. This one's a surprise prize, so don't stay home just because you don't think you have a chance.

There will also be trinkets for each place in each group.

Contest Rules;

The Great Elanthian Lockpicking Contest
RULES
1. This is a contest of lockpicking skill, and as such, the Unlock and Disarm spells
are completely disallowed.
2. Contestants will use the same tools, which will be provided by contest officials.
3. Each participant will attempt to disarm and pick as many boxes as they can
within an allotted amount of time. Scrolls*, wands, rods, and SELF-CAST lores
are allowed.
4. After each round, points are tallied and recorded. The top three scores in a
given level range will go on to the finals. Any ties will be broken by a "sudden
death" round between the tied players, where the highest score for that single
round determines the winner.
5. Any lock picked that results in a trap going off may yield no points for lock or
trap. It is up to contestants to figure out which traps may be set off and still
yield points. If a trap is of a type that may be "picked around", then doing so
is perfectly legal, but will result in no disarming points for the box.
6. Any injury resulting from the contest is the responsibilty of the participant.
7. Any and all decisions made by contest officials are final.
* Although scrolls are allowed, you need free hands to use one, and once a contest
box is in your hands, you may not set it down AT ALL, or it will vanish and you
must get another box.
SCORING
3 points - Disarming any trap
4 points - Picking any lock
7 points - Picking the first lock in a round
4 points - Picking the second lock in a round

NOTE; All boxes will be trapped with rod traps. What's a contest without a chance of death?.

Rogue Roulette With All Chambers Loaded;

We are also holding a survival round, pick through the trap, each round the trap is harder. Last one standing wins. This contest would not be for everyone as it will take no consideration of a rogues train. This will be the one to determine who really is the best smith. The prize for the last standing will also be another cool million silvers.

Any questions or suggestions let me know!

Awesome.

Out of curiosity, what was the reason to making everything have a rods trap? One reason I can think of is it eliminates the problem of setting off traps that would get people arrested. Just wondering what the actual reason is.

AFAIK rods are the only trap that isn't disabled if you set it off. You can just reuse the same box over and over if it gets set off.

I was using the same trap because it makes each box equal. I chose the rod trap because it was deadly without creating too much damage to be easily healed. Immoliators leave too much mess and any area trap would hurt other contestants.
