Did creatures get reimbursed with added combat prowess, if they lost their magic? There's only one that I have sufficient reason to at least hope so, and a fair amount to believe so, but I figured I might not be the only one unable to judge certain facets of the new spell versions acureately, if spell casting creatures were involved, and they had been buffed up some while magic was down for them.
At the risk of utter embarrassment, I had an empath ask me if maybe I didn't need to find something a bit more in line with my skill, than adan'f, after about 6 deaths in two days there. The sad part was that the deaths weren't from warriors...they were from mages. Not looking for adjustement, if this is the case, just a head's up, so I can compare past performance to current.

No, Chriz, no adjustment was made for them.

Mages ain't that wimpy physically. They've always in the past been sort of wimpy magically (though I hear that's changed in recent months), and were less dangerous than warriors because they spent so much time casting spells. Swampies too have gotten more dangerous due to actually swinging a weapon now and again as opposed to casting ES over and over... hehe. I'm sure those aren't the only varmits so effected.

I would think that the casting evasion penalty affected creatures as well as characters, so now that they are not casting, you may be having trouble with their unimpeded evasion...

I really doubt that's the problem. I checked out Adan'f for a few minutes and found that the mages were quite a bit more difficult - not because they're harder to hit (they don't seem to be, really) but because they're hitting much better with those stupid staffs. I hunted them a while back (a sizable number of evasion/parry/weapon ranks ago) and they weren't nearly this good in a melee situation.

I may try them again now that I know it's a mage-specific aberration and that there wasn't just a wholesale uptweak to Adan'f; I didn't even bother fighting the warriors once I saw how much of a struggle a shadow mage turned out to be.

You don't think that maybe it was just their tactics? Usually, they just stand there prepping and casting spells. Without their magic, they were probably a lot more busy, making balance gaining maneuvers and attacks more often and whatnot. Critter spellcasters don't seem to do like players ... they don't prep a spell, then jab and parry for balance waiting for full prep before casting their spell, so they would normally perform less effectively than their skills would warrant were they using effective tactics. Now that their magic is gone, they are probably making a lot better use of their mundane combat skills.

Based on Adan'f, I tried them too while their magic is off. <don't even want to think about what the mages will be like with a fully preped MB>.

I don't think they're harder, they just "choose" other parts of their routine because they don't have the "match" to cast their spells right now.

They're pretty perceptive things too. A number of times they managed to search me out, with Savant hiding.

But I actually managed to skin one!

Ironically, I got worse damage from blowin' one of their boxes that someone else got than from the adan'f themselves...
mutters something about having 3 vykathi reapers at melee with me when i don't got my armor on...

I still would rather fight the mages than the warriors. At least til they get thier magics back.

Adan'f Mage are far more dangerous without their spells because they're constantly advancing causing serious MO issues in there.

The adan'f mages actually seem to have FAR superior combat skill than the warriors....funny..

The point about balancing and attack procedures makes a lot of sense, especially if their magic tends to knock them off balance when casting, like ours does. I've put a whole heck of a lot of hours in there, and I've never, until now, been staffed to death, or even seriously harmed by one. But, they do tend to spend the majority of their time casting. I went to moruryns, but I think I'll run back, before they get magic, and see if I can start copying their QS technique. I didn't think about that aspect, and it seemed to be working very well for them. My QS technique doesn't do much but keep me casting surefoot and hunting the lowest thing that will still teach QS. <chuckles>
