Well, overall, I think it's a damn cool spell. I'd be testing it on things my level, but with 14 TM adan'f mages are getting caught, but are breaking out really fast.
The spell won't default to whatever you're facing, you keep trying to cast on yourself.
It would be cool that, if the critter doesn't fall over first cast, a second cast will make you create another chain to pull it over. Something like:
You gesture at a small boggle.
The mana you were holding contributes to the spell.
A myriad of brilliant purple lights coalesce from your fingertips and dart toward your target with a feverish speed!
The lights begin to drip like liquid, then solidify into tight bands of crackling energy around the small boggle!
The bands meld into the energy already surrounding the boggle, causing it to unbalance the bands and cause the boggle to tip over.
Spell teaches escaping, which is cool, heh.
If I was able to catch some of the people I caught with it, I imagine with someone with actual TM ranks can do <evil grin>
Targeted Magic: 14 94% mind lock
The spell trains VERY well. I'm locking ~300 PM with min preps.
I still can't cast anything else, it must think I'm in the critter sorcery book and not the Paladin spell books.
The spell does not count as an attack, I wonder if Empaths can use it? <grin>
Undead have a minor resistance to it. Of course, undead might have a resistance to all spells.
The entire description of the spell is AWESOME.
It'd be cool if you can see the bands around the critter when looking at it, like you can when its on a player.
As a third effect (first being the binding, second being the tipping over), it would be cool if, with enough skill, the bands can constrict. Or if you can command the bands to constrict somehow and have it give you a minor RT. Just sounds cool being able to crush someone to death <foam>
