Sad that we had to have a fight about it, but looks like Rigby explained this over in another folder. (Dread, this would be the "solid answer" you were looking for.)

This is in the "General" magic folder: (There are follow-up posts, so you may want to look for them.)

<<Posting on this is a no-win situation -- to explain it, I have to reveal more info about the magic system than I want to reveal, and someone is probably going to blast me for it no matter what -- but here's what's up:

<<Each spell has a range of potential. You can't (or shouldn't) get more than full potential out of spell (100% of the spell power). Obviously, mana plays a major role in how much potential a spell's cast has. At max mana, a spell has 100% of it's potential. Skill also factors into this. Someone with 600 ranks is going to get somewhat more potential out of X mana than someone with 100 ranks and the same mana.

<<Previously, if you cast past a spell's cap, you were in fact pushing past 100% in many cases. This was corrected because, due to this, a handful of spells were exceeding the global caps if the caster ignored the cap (the extra mana past the cap was contributing even though it should not have).

<<Also, some people were getting past 100% before they hit the spell cap, thanks to their skill "sliding" the spell potential upward. This is what you're noticing now if you never tried to cast past the cap (or cast right at the cap). This only comes into play when you're maxing out a spell at, past, or close to the ceiling, or if your skill is such that the sliding value versus mana moves the potential for that cast close to the 100% mark.

<<On a daily basis, it's very rare to see casts coming anywhere near to 100% potential... the most common casts are less than 20% of any given spell's potential. This, combined with my not wanting to explain this detail of the system, is why I didn't post. My apologies.

<<On the plus side, I guess you can feel good about yourselves that you've got the skill to push the envelope on these spells. Heh.

Yeah I noticed that the other day myself span. The correction Rigby made with as far as charisma actually having nothing to do with Spell vs. Agility, was never really officially corrected via GM announcement either. I'm suppose we'll see that one pop up as an official announcement in one of the magic prime folders when someone from there questions it. Hehe. But anyways, thanks for the heads up.

Thanks,
Dread
