Just out of curiosity, why is it that this spell affects unstunnable creatures? One of the moderate effects is supposed to be stunning, with the full on effect being unconsciousness.

Now I'm not really sure of the initial rationale for these creatures being unstunnable, but I guess in most cases this is due to a lack of a central nervous system? Is it being because the mental blast spell goes straight to the consciousness of the creature (wherever that originates) to stun/knock them out?

Just wondering...

Not all that hard to believe. I know some PEOPLE that don't use central nervous systems.

If the unstunnable creature is an animated undead, the spell energy disrupts the animation spell matrix. The creature is stunned because its animation spell is not working properly for a while.

Those creatures can't be stunned by normal combat damage due to their external physical
makeup (i.e. rock, granite). Mental Blast does not attack their external physique, but the mind directly.

I've been playing DR 5 years and I was unaware that there are creatures that are... "unstunnable".

Is this a player assessment, or did a GM come out and say that creature X isn't stunnable?

Maybe I should hunt more or something and pay attention to these things.

swamp trolls, rock guardians, a few others...

see those creatures cannot be stunned because of their physical nature that they can withstand hard blows without being shocked, mb does not deliver any hard blows it just fries your nervous system or the matrix which keeps them in unlife.

basically instead of shocking the creature it just completely destroys its bodily functions for a short period of time <g>
