Ok, so I'm quite new to horses...

What does this mean?

>prep pfe
You are unable to maintain enough concentration to prepare your spell while your mount moves under you.

My horse is trained in magic and combat, so I'm confused!

Also, how much does it cost to unstable a horse? And what are the repercussions of not grooming/feeding a horse? Can the horse die in combat, and if so can it be resurrected? Do I have to buy armour for it if I'm going to hunt, and does my horse evade based off of my ranks or what? How do I make my horse trot/gallop...so far he only walks? I'm sooo confused and I can't find many sites that offer up extensive information!

Thanks in advance!!

The rider also needs to be trained to use magic on horseback. You can learn this from the stablemasters by asking about PREPARE. There are no requirements to learn it aside from being a magic user. Hope that helps.

Speaking of novice questions, does anyone know ball park what a fully trained horse goes for these days? One trained in all the skills out there from the various guilds.

Whew, lets break that down.

As someone else has said, ask a stablemaster about prepare, I thought there were minimum 20th circle, but I must have been making that up.

>Also, how much does it cost to unstable a horse?
Never more than 5 gold.

>And what are the repercussions of not grooming/feeding a horse?
None that I can tell. It will weaken a palladin-horse bond, but you don't have to worry about that. I hope this changes if they ever decide to rewrite horses.

>Can the horse die in combat, and if so can it be resurrected?
No and no, so don't worry about either. If your horse dies ASSIST, its supposed to be immortal under current mechanics.

>Do I have to buy armour for it if I'm going to hunt, and does my horse evade based off of my ranks or what?
No armor is necessary as they can take no damage. Horses have a base attack/def skill (appraise them) and that's it, unless you are a Paladin in which case you can "train" one to be a war-horse, though from what I hear, its not worth it.

>How do I make my horse trot/gallop...so far he only walks?
Bah I haven't had my horse out in so long. . . try SIGNAL horse to trot. . . maybe. . .

I've recently seen 15-25 platinum for fully trained horses.

Wow, only 15 to 25 plats for a fully trained horse? Why was I thinking that they were going for 50 to 75 plats? Were they a few years ago when the system first came out?

Probably. I've seen fully-trained horses go for as little as 5 plat nowadays.

Yea, since horses pretty much last forever, the market is somewhat 'flooded' for the people who want one. I'd say anyone who's really interested probably has one stabled away for the last two years anyways.

The issue is its not worth most rangers time to catch, store, and fully train (many hours) worth of stuff for 5 plat, so most probably don't do it. I've had 10 stored in my vault for the last year or so, and have maybe had 2 people ask and get a horse from me.

I see now, yeah that makes sense that the market would get flooded with the horses being immortal. Sounds like they need to work up something a bit differently when they get around to fixing the horse system.

No matter what your horse question is the answer will always be the same.

Don't get a horse. To say they are broken is to put it mildly. Horses sound great until you relize you can't group them so you can't walk with your friends. They can't go into most hunting grounds. They are a pain in the butt to stable and can lose any tack you have on them when you log out and don't have your horse stabled. Horses are fun for a few days then you will stable it and never ever drag it out again.

Horses train appraisal insanely well and you only need a lead rope (which you can braid from grass) to lead it around/out of the stable.

'Nuff said.

Actually Jalika, I'd be interested in purchasing a horse from you. How might I be able to contact you ingame?

Jalika's been in Crossings (ranger guild or geni mostly) lately, however I'm out of state for the holidays and just checking in on the boards here and there. I'll be back playing more often after Jan 5th, so feel free to look me up in game or drop an IM at SpiffDR.
