Are there any other sorts of specialized breeds besides the Akhaal? And if so, are they commonly available for purchase somewhere?

There's Zamalan or something, but I dunno if those are purchaseable. I only saw them in the Theren Cavalry area near the arenas.

Someone got a nightmare, but I figure that's 1)unique and 2)not for sale.

J'Lo, no that other one

There is 1 Zeharca horse from a GM auction, but last I knew, the person who owns it left the game. I was nagging her to buy it, to no avail.

Aside from the other mentioned earlier, I am not aware of any other horse breeds.

The Nightmare is unique, and it isn't a conventional mount. It is like the gor'tog mount it is summoned via an item, can't be used in melee, can't be trained, and can't have barding and such installed on it. It looks pretty much like a summonable flying carpet essentially. Cool though that it is.

Two Zeharca horses were sold last night by Ishtvan st his office in the Therenborough town stables. He explained that it was a breed of the desert people, and the name is Ilithic for "cross." The horse sold to Commander Gwenddolyn did indeed have a cross-shaped mark on its forehead, so I don't know if cross refers to the markings or the bloodlines.

He also sold a Haramorlam horse. It's a Human breed that he gets from somewhere south of Therenborough. Haramorlam is Gamgweth for "Black-strong," and is a large breed 17-19 hh with (as the name implies) a strong temperament. Going off of the other half of the name, the breed has a coal black coat with white markings near either the eye, nostril, or center face. Ishtvan presented Baron Gyfford with a 20 hh Haramorlam stallion, and Jerecis bought the mare sold last night.

The Haramorlam pony he had was a cross between a Haramorlam and another horse so that it still retained the coloring and temperament of the Haramorlam but was a bit smaller in size. I don't think that one was sold to anyone who signed up on his list, but others on the list who didn't get one of the ones he had in stock have requested Haramorlam or Zeharca horses if his scouts and agents can find some more.

Who is Ishtvan? And was this sale announced in advance? I certainly didn't know anything about it!

>>Who is Ishtvan?

Good question since he wears a shadowsilk cloak. He is a Ranger (at least from Thil's perspective...) since he wears the Hunter title, does the guild handshake, and wrangles horses.

Yes, it was announced here:

And IG there were notes in both his office and on a post in the corral in the new stables in Therenborough. You had to be a Therengian citizen prior to him posting to be on the list, however. Future sales may or may not be citizen-only.

That explains it, then. I'm a Zoluren citizen with my character that IS a citizen and I don't get to Therengaria much...let alone read the boards. I suppose I shall have to do so in the future.

actually ishtvan is a thief who tried to take down kalag at one time, and also cut off schvartz's tail while torturing her to get information on kalag <thank damaris schvartz had an empath to help restore her tail>. So in-game, Schvartz has a definate reason to have a vendetta <or to forge a sword of assassination - as the S'Kra heritage dictates> sworn against him. <although the way they have GMNPCs god-moded, I realisitically don't have a shipyard rats chance against agonar against ishtvan>- so, I "bide my time" in-game>

However, <OOC NOW> in game for PCS - only TRADERS may sell a horse. So whoever the GM is behind Ishtvan, he is stepping on trader toes by doing something no PC can do - selling horses as either a ranger or a thief.

So, no horsethieves can dispose of stolen goods on the blackmarket without being caught by the Law? Only honest businessmen can sell? Seems... wrong somehow.

I understand that mechanics-wise, this is an encroachment on "how things are", but it sure seems like it would be reasonable in an IC manner.
