Something else to remember when submitting a rumor:

Please use full sentences (including punctuation!), just as if someone had been speaking to you. Light dialects are acceptable, but please bear in mind that all NPCs, regardless of race or demeanor, will be adopting this dialect when they relate the rumor, so it's probably better to stray on the safe side and stick with regular spellings and speech patterns.

There are some things that would only be area specific, and while it's nice that we could spread our own rumours, it'd be nice if we can somehow dictacte where they would be told (just to ease the ears of others). I realize full well that this wouldn't be COMPLETELY realistic, but to a large extent it would.

Granted, if I say "Prince Vorclaf wears purple knickers," everyone in the realms might get a kick out of it.

If I say "Ivy sleeps with three eyed goblins" though, that's a very lcaol person..Even within Shard, I doubt half the people have ever seen Sentinel Ivy, so it'd be a good rumour to spread throughout Shard, but absolutely senseless to spread all the way to the islands. oOC, the people on the islands would just be cluttered by things that make no sense...IC, once it left Shard, no one would bother repeating it, so the rumour would stay local.

Is there any way we can have it made so that we can WHISPER BARTENDER LOCAL "bob is a jackal in disguise" so it doesn't just get spread needlessly?

G'day,

>Is there any way we can have it made so that we can WHISPER BARTENDER LOCAL "bob is a jackal in disguise" so it doesn't just get spread needlessly?

While I suppose it is technically possible to add a feature to restrict the spread of rumors, I'm not sure that there would be enhancement enough to the system to justify the work in making the change. The system isn't really designed to keep information local, but rather as a means for information to be widely spread. I always here some folks saying they don't hear about this event or that happening. Now there is a way to find stuff out, assuming that players involved make use of the system.

>It looks like only Bards and Traders can submit rumors, right? Can anyone ask about a rumor, or just those two guilds?

That can vary with the NPC. Some NPCs have biases, whether it be for guilds, race or gender (I was testing something earlier today and couldn't figure out why the NPC wasn't answering me until I checked and saw the NPC only talked to women. <G>). While Bards and Traders will likely have more access to the system, there are some NPCs who will talk to all guilds.

>Also, will all GMs be checking rumors or just a set few? This system sounds great and I don't want it to go by the wayside as the GMs get caught up in other activities.

I think this will become a fairly widely used system by GMs, both in checking player submitted rumors as well as placing their own into the system to support events and what not.

Can we have a way to tell if someone won't talk to US, or they won't talk at all?

Because I see the new bartender at L's Heaven in Shard, but he says he doesn't know about anything. I really doubt that's true since he's brand new. :P

The messaging is definitely different depending on which is the case.

>ask bartender for rumors
A Halfling bartender says, "I don't know anything about that sort of thing."

>ask bartender for beer
Halfling bartender says, "I'm afraid I don't know anything about that."

Does that mean he doesn't know any rumors yet, or won't tell me? Because the messaging is different, but it is sorta vague.

I've noticed that all the new rumor NPCs don't seem to be able to answer any non-rumor questions. I'd think all the ones located in establishments would have things to say about the owners, among other things.

<grins> Rumors like to start for malicious purposes...

1. The passage to P5 has been found and is accessable by all.

2. A Kertig Fist and Glaes Merchant is arriving in Crossing in the next month.

3. Smacks likes fat bottom girls.

This is one of the things that will be expanded and embellished as time goes on, along with the addition of more NPCs to the lands. As with RECALL messaging (which is constantly expanding), it might be a good idea to check back with the NPCs every once in a while to see what updates may've taken place.
