Ok, for some reason branches can be lit but limbs can't. BUT when I try to put my alcohol on the burning branch I get no output. Like the game just ignored my command. I can't put it on fire like before since it's called "burning branch." I need a bleeder! :( What can I do here?

This is a change that I am happy to see. Unfortunately, bleeders are still the best way to train first aid (and the only viable option at high ranks). However, you can get bleeders without engaging in OOC behavior that borders on mech abuse.

My survival-tertiary character currently has 699 ranks of first aid. She has never poured alcohol on fire, stuck her hand in a lit brazier, licked a knife, or intentionally backlashed sorcery. The method I use is simply to nurse whatever bleeders she gets naturally through combat and other activities.

Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall rank!

I remember back in the old days purposefully failing the check to get into the thieves guold so I could get a nice abdomen bleeder. It does seem like they're trying to remove these types of methods to get bleeders.

If you're doing all this for first aid, you should ask around for First Aid Compendiums.

This saddens me. I guess I'm just going to have to ask someone to beat me up, then. I feel like infections were supposed to be the biggest drawback to keeping a "pet" bleeder. I've been killed by infections before whilst traveling about, far from the safety of an empath guild. First aid compendiums are fine, but I can't just be studying a book in the middle of combat, can I? For that matter, can I study while researching or pondering an appraisal focus? I'm survival tert as well, and if this change had occurred when I had north of 500 ranks I wouldn't mind as much.

The fact of the matter is, as has been said, bleeders are the best way to train first aid. You run a risk every time you carry one around, and that risk diminishes the more skilled you become (as it should.) However, I don't see what the big fuss is over allowing people to keep savvy with their bandages. What kind of Elanthia-renowned adventurer would you be if you can't remove a few crossbow bolts from your shoulder and press on with the good fight?

These days with fewer and fewer folks wandering the realm, it's become paramount to be self sufficient. The biggest part of that is keeping yourself alive. Boo on this change.

There have been more folks in the past few months regularly logged in than there's been in the past few years, with the addition of free accounts.

More is relative. It's hard to find an empath outside of Zoulren without spamming over a gweth (which I'm sure annoys people.)

Also, I looked further into anatomy charts and there's no way I could ever hope to afford one that would sufficiently teach me. So there's that.

You admitted you have fewer than 500 ranks in FA, so the worst-case scenario would be buying all the charts from 410 to 500 scholarship (Ape to Caracal). It's 45 plat. No, that's not necessarily cheap, but it's also not out-of-reach expensive, either. A single chart for less than 500 ranks costs 5 plat or less, and all the intro charts are significantly less than that. Were you just looking on trader tables?

I do not think this is true - having a bleeder can negative affect other activities. I think a compendium is a perfectly reliably method for training.

I think the tendency toward bleeders is because they lock you faster...? And possibly because it looks like (via Epedia) that the higher-end charts are fest only. But I agree with you; 90% of my training or more has been charts.

I dunno, there's quite a bit about FA that borders on OOC either way you slice it. Is it really IC for a character to stand around waiting searching for bleeding people to tend as a regular activity? If my character doesn't hunt until they're bleeding and typically finishes by the time they're bruised is it OOC if I keep going until I'm bleeding or do I just never train FA outside of compendiums? Doing dumb things like throwing alcohol into a fire doesn't seem less bizarrely OOC than braiding vines forever or climbing up city walls. I'd just lump it all into the "Adventurers are insane" hat.

1) Depends on the role-play; is the person an aspiring candy-striper?

2) Do people actually do this? I find it hard to believe that anyone gets reliable experience from this method.

3) Even if people are doing this, it's just another arrow in the "go get a compendium" quiver.

On that (3) note, I would like to see other shops with charts/compendiums in them, accessible to non-Empaths. Maybe put them in out-of-the-way-ish places (Enclave, Arid Steppe, Muspar'i, that sort of thing) so that there's still some value to asking a Zoluren empath for a hand. But still, would be nice if they were more accessible. Of course it would be better to just have another couple of ways to train/use FA, but this would be a great stopgap with less development time needed when compared against coming up with new FA-systems. Of course that is assuming that said hypothetical systems aren't near release...?

Mechanics abuse aside, people shove their faces into buckets of snakes for fancy bolts.

The hero-class of Elanthia are bananas.

Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.
