I must say that I do find it a tad disconcerting that folks are already trying to see what they can do to max the coin earning potential for this system... I just feel this system should be used as a way to help further rp.. not to abuse to see if you can get rich quickly....

Interesting results. I'll let you do the math on what I experienced to compare.
I checked a limited run last night and this morning with Mags in Plat. Empath with 45 ranks of foraging, 44 ranks of perception. Each forage was 4 seconds. Mags gave exactly 21 copper for each twig for the task every time.
Did a more limited run with vines this morning. Same 4 sec. forage. Usually got 22 copper and sometimes got 25 copper per vine for the task.
She asked for anywhere from 5 to 15 twigs or vines. The other item was plovik leaves but I haven't tried those yet.

i would think the coinage needs to be adjusted just a tad. my trader killed 6 firemaidens and earned 262 kronar. he took a leaky package from guildleader agonar to guildleader annael - 3 rooms away - and earned 303 kronar. although being a trader, maybe the idea of traders earn more for making deliveries? :-)
The skilllevel for kill tasks might need to be adjusted a tad as well. Even though firemaidens according to "whattohunt" come in around 65 <68 is my traders highest weapon skill> - they actually are harder than that because they carry greatswords and parry with them quite well -- he was offered options of kill tasks from beisswurms <too easy> to aesry snoblins and ratha hatchlings <way over his head>.

Couldn't agree more. I can't imagine that this system was intended to be used this way, and would be pleased see impediments put in place to see that it cannot.

At this point they are looking for bugs and issues. What you earn for any given task and the frequency at which you can repeat a task certainly fits within that. I did specific limited foraging tasks and looked specifically at the coin per item/task because what J'Lo indicated seemed very skewed. If it takes 4 sec./forage there is no way you can get 2000 twigs in an hour. Even 1000 would exceed an hour. Combine that with what I got per item/task and it's less than 2 plat if you spam it to maximize what you could make in this beta version.

since the forage tasks don't have to be collected by you just given to the taskmaster to satisfy the criteria a person with high level foraging can collect 8+ twigs every 30 seconds (i get 9 currently). 9 twigs every 30 seconds that is 2000 twigs in 1.8 hours or 1000 twigs in just under an hour. but that is utilizing multiple characters one to forage, one to transport.

I think the issue with the delivery tasks is that there isn't the same barrier you see in graphical games of having to trot your character where ever.
For instance, running from the Riverhaven ferry to the Crossing ferry takes a matter of seconds with a travel script where running from Ashenvale to the great lifts that go down to the Thousand Needles (in WoW) could probably take 10 minutes or more.
It would seem the thing to do would be to add a timer on delivery tasks for each individual NPC (one delivery every 10 minutes, 60 minutes, etc.?), and perhaps not touch or raise the payouts so that they're still worthwhile to pick up amid the more adventure-oriented tasks.

We are discussing restrictions now.
Completely unrestricted tasking will be going away. However, we need to balance the system between the casual player who is doing tasks themselves versus someone who is trying to pound the system into the dirt. I have a couple of ideas, but we're going to discuss them first.
Look for something later tonight, probably.

>>If it takes 4 sec./forage there is no way you can get 2000 twigs in an hour.
Of course it's impossible. If you paid attention to what I posted, I told you this was so. It takes an absolute minimum of 4 seconds per FORAGE TWIG, and getting to 500 twigs means at that specific minimum RT you will spend 42 minutes in cumulative RT as applied to you by the game itself. If you aren't lucky or skilled enough to get 4 seconds each time, this block of time will grow to an absolute maximum of 59 minutes (which is how long it would take if you got 6 seconds each time you foraged).
The point being made, though, was that the 4.2 to 5.9 hours needed to get 3000 items is entirely separate from the task system and can be completed before entering that system. This is not the case for the other tasks, as the item needed only activates when certain post-acceptance conditions arise--giving the item to the delivery recipient, finding the item in the right place by searching, killing a critter, and so on. Additionally, these other tasks have far more randomness as well as having a much bigger learning rate that then speeds you on to harder or longer tasks. Thirdly, it seems that all the other task-givers offer more than one type of task so you're either altering your earnings rate up or down or are cherry-picking and wasting time declining tasks.
J'Lo, I'm a ranger.. I'd believe anything.....

I feel like when the earnings limit is imposed, it should take into account all tasks to make cherry-picking less attractive of an option. Perhaps declined tasks even count double towards your amount earned.

i don't want to see penaltys to declined tasks because i don't feel that telling mo that NO, i don't want to commit suicide by trying to kill 22 celepeze should be penalized. And yes, thats an actual one I declined. ::whimper::

and furthermore my barb will be declining any further tasks that want me to skin 11 crocs and get 3 1/2 silver for the whole thing, whereas if i sold them i'd get 105 apiece at least.

In my line of work, one has to think 'differently' to fix the system. Someone will do it, if its able to be done, then again, I have a general distrust of people :)
My teachers taught me that you have to break the system every way possible to make sure it works well, better someone doing it to fix it, than someone doing it to abuse it. (Remember when they had to close all the shops in DR for a day? I won't tell you why. But now its fixed.)
>I'd suggest that you actually run your script for 1 hour, and then tell us what your earnings per hour come to.
I'm going to pass on that. I understand your reasoning but I would feel bad running it for an hour. Mainly because it creates insane amounts of scroll for others. Also, I just wouldn't feel right doing that, I felt bad enough doing it for 10 minutes at a time.
I think the best idea pitched so far was 'diminishing returns' in a given period of time. That seemed reasonable to me. Reduce it to as low as 1 copper kronar per delivery, or "enough tasks for now" (like beggar theft used to be).

While I agree some limits look to be needed, I don't think any penalties should be attached to declining something. I know as an empath, I don't ever have any intentions of keeping one of the 'kill x-number' or 'kill the boss' type tasks, and that would just be cruel to penalize a guild that can't really do some of the tasks for declining them IMO.
