let's all suggest that the merchant show up. :-) I dunno how damaged my book may be.. but I'm sure it could use some repairs...

As a temprary solution, try raising your scholarship. Mine got damaged to the point I couldn't read it, but ~10-15 ranks of scholarship later I was able to read it again. It appears damage just raises the difficulty of reading it, but I don't doubt there's a point of no return where it can't be read at all, just haven't hit that point and hope I never do.
Would be nice to see the merchant and get it repaired, but the merchant belongs to Skralthaen and he is very very busy dealing with Cleric issues, most notably the return of ressurection.
