A new version of the Shield of Light spell has gone live. It will allow you to gain larger shields than before as your skill with Primary Magic increases. Devotion can work as an added bonus, lessening the amount of primary magic you need to create larger shields. Low devotion won't hamper you in casting the spell though, unless you are unclean.

This is not the last change to SOL, and we're working on getting the approvals for more changes. As that is a rather lengthy process, we figured you'd rather be able to utilize the larger shield sizes in the meantime.
