<<Ok. I call you. What rangers that you know don't use magic? Give us names and approximate levels. I'd be curious as to who they are.>>

I'll be blunt :>. I think the core reason for a majority of Rangers working magic to some extent is because:

A.) It's super easy to throw in there with forage/climb/tracking scripts.

B.) With survival skillset in the state it is (majority of skills needing rewritten and/or broken), may as well work magic. It, at least has a more tangible payoff.

C.) There are a TON of survival skills. But I'll bet most of them don't see day to day use, except if you train them specifically to keep your survival average. Take my PC, for example. 99.999 percent of all of his swimming ranks were gotten from having to swim from beetles, through crawdads (or where those silverfish) to get to bears and arbelogs. He hasn't really worked swimming since. No NEED to.

If you were to rate survival skills by NEED, you'd really see the highest ranks in Evasion, hiding, stalking, disarm, locks, stealing, perception, climbing, and swimming. (These are just about all of them, probably a few more).

Until we make survival skills important, and make it so that you NEED at least some modicum of survival skill -- I think Rangers putting work into magic will continue. This is being remedied (you have to have some climbing skill to get to Horse Clan by yourself) slowly but surely.
