So, from what I understand Rangers get a spell called... what was it, Harawep's Bonds? anyway, some spell that a friend of mine claims can overcome about 220 ranks of evasion at around 165 ranks of PM, and has no other contests. It supposedly debuffs and unbalances (and damages?) the target, immobilizes, etc.

First, is this correct? I'm inclined to believe him, if it's the spell I'm thinking about, since I've been hit by it before.

Second, if the above is true, nerf it. Really. Hard. If that's the truth about the contests, that's pretty wrong. Throw in an additional contest at the very least.

yeah, the first part of your post was a legitimate question, then you proceeded to gripe without really knowing anything about it.

Secondly, you are asking about a Ranger spell in the Combat section. Frankly I am not qualified to tell you about the spell, but I can suggest that you start by googling the spell, and then perhaps ask in the Ranger's folder.

Further you might want to ask about the types of spell contests. There are only 3 types of contested(non-TM) spells, and I am not going to write them out and get them wrong.

First, HARES, I was going by what a friend of mine who is generally reliable said, and the fact that I've consistently found magic to be pretty nasty stuff without BMR.

Second, ALDEN, maybe I did post it in the wrong place, sorry about that, distracted and sleepy IRL.

I was hoping for clarification, but if you're not going to help directly I can look it up elsewhere as ALDEN suggested.

Also notice that I posted that it should be nerfed IF what I heard was true. If it's not, then there's a chance it won't need it

Harawep's Bonds is SvA. It webs the target for a bit (web is the weakest form of hindering status), and has chance to poison and knock down. Pretty soon, the spell will be changed to not do poison, will last not as long, and will re-web if you use one of the many, many ways of breaking webs.

The SvA contest for this spell is: Reflex, Agility, Discipline, Charisma vs. Reflex, Agility, and Evasion. Magic ranks have nothing to do with it except overcoming your natural resistance and increasing the amount of mana the caster can use.

If you want to complain about Stat spells, choose a different one.

Had you come here looking for help, i probably would have obliged. Instead you came to a COMPLAINT folder, presumably to complain, about something you knew next to nothing about. On top of that you're asking for the nerf bat (again, let me reiterate) for something you knew nothing about.

Had you posted in say, a Ranger or Magic folder with the tone of 'hey, i heard X about HB, is it true?', my answer would have been much different than seeing 'i heard X about HB..OMG ITS OVERPOWERED, nerf it' in a complaint folder.

Rational questions receive rational answers. Over-emotional, uninformed rants do not.

Once again you totally ignore the "If it IS like this" part of my posts.

I already admitted that this was probably the wrong folder; I was reasonably sure that the Ranger knew what he was talking about, though apparently I was wrong.

So, chill for a minute. I've been corrected and there is really no further need for that kind of post.

What would probably have been a better response to my first post would have been a correction and attempt to help WITHOUT the hostility.

I heard this mage say that at the highest levels he can cast on ANYBODY including people with BMR, and if this is true, its wrong, and overpowered. I dont know if this is true or not, but i trust him, so nerf magic, please.

While it is obviously true that with enough power the spell will completely own anyone, the person casting the spell has a small chance of imploding their soul and leaving them stunned and/or dead with zero favors.
