So I'm sitting here bored on a Saturday night. I've been doing some random wiki reading all day, and thought I'd ask for forums opinions on where I can improve my weapons and armor. I know I can I'm just not sure where to take it over the next 20-30 circles. I'm pretty happy overall, but I want to have some type of gear upgrade to work towards, since I think my armor is basically capped without ultra-ultra-rare metals.
Level 60 thief.
Weapons: steel leaf blade sword, nightstick, throwing axe, spiked hammer (all around 30 stone), laminated oak and horn crossbow (9 sec), a cherry nisha shortbow (store bought arrows; not sure I want to buy expensive highly lose-able ammo).
I plan on keeping strength moderately low, probably the 30-40 range, so light and balanced is better. The sword was a pick for the all around weapon; it can stun/slash/backstab, and it's convenient to have a 1-weapon-stop, but I'm thinking I'd be better served carrying a simple daily driver ME, then picking up a pure BS weapon on the side.
Short of buying harulan/kertig weapons, I'm not really sure what to buy to pump my damage ability.

Honestly, you aren't going to get a lot better than what you have. The throwing axe is a good melee weapon itself, and you have a good utility weapon for using guild abilities.
I'd say work towards a glaes/kertig thrusting blade (or similar template) and a silverwood Nisha bow. After that a set of titanese armor and you are set. A rare metal throwing axe is really nice, too, but if you don't go for a perm bonding potion you lose out on a lot of damage from hurl plus run the risk of losing it easier.
There isn't a lot of reason to upgrade from steel and common mats for armor unless you just want them. There are very few weapons that are really worth the extra money IMO, especially if you aren't going for the heaviest weight possible.

There's a lot of upgrades you could have. But, there is not a lot of upgrades you really need. I for instance, on a thief, would go for the best stabbers available and the best armor and shield to have to upgrade, while keeping your hindrance at a minimum. This basically equates to spending a lot of money.

Thanks guys. That's roughly what I was thinking, but it's good to have a second opinion.
Would a glaes/kert rapier be pound for pound better/worse than a scimitar? I think they should have basically the same stats, but moved around. Just not sure about the value of puncture for daily hunting since thrust/lunge.
Armor I'm planning on sticking to my clown suit, and it's already lumium and silk at the lowest hindrance templates. Not much 'down' to go. And if I absolutely need to drop the hindrance, I usually just remove the armor anyway since evasion/hiding are the primary defenses.

For regular SE training I use a 52 stone haralun cutlass forged by St. Squanticus himself. It was a bit heavy at first, but its like swinging a truck at something in small edge format. It's my goto if I'm not able to use puncture.

> app cut
A tempered cutlass is a medium edged melee-ranged weapon.
A tempered cutlass trains the small edged skill.
You are certain that it could do:
low (3/27) puncture damage
very heavy (10/27) slice damage
somewhat heavy (8/27) impact damage
no (0/27) fire damage
no (0/27) cold damage
no (0/27) electric damage
The cutlass is inadequately designed for improving the force of your attacks.
You are certain that the cutlass is inadequately (4/17) balanced and is well (9/17) suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.
You are certain that the cutlass is very strong against damage (14/18), and is in pristine condition (98-100%).
The cutlass is made with metal.
You are certain that the cutlass weighs exactly 52 stones.
You are certain that the cutlass is worth exactly 177316 Dokoras.
The cutlass looks to bear your familiar marks of registration.
Roundtime: 8 seconds.

The balance on those 52 stone ones hurts a lot sometimes, but it does hit like a mack truck wielding a slightly smaller mack truck (when it does hit for me). I replaced my tyrium rapier with one.

Love the cutlass template, but my personal "I never plan on replacing this" weapon is a tyrium light throwing axe. Thing is a beast when you swing it and a beast when you hurl it.
Tyrium telek has also served me pretty well with backstabbing over the years, though I think next Hollow's Eve I'll try to get enough of the purple stuff for a thrusting blade.

What do you guys think about multi-load crossbows? Got one that holds four bolts having fun with it. Was wondering if I'll be able to snipe with it later or if snipe only works with light crossbow... ether way for back training its keeping things interesting. Also been hearing alot about light throwing axes, I always assumed axes were heavy thrown that's definitely not the case?
Also liked that thread about confidence. Charisma is a tricky Stat nice to see I'm not the only one who hates spending those tdps on it. I feel like after Dis/reflex/agility I'd rather just got them in strength and hit harder rather than try to charm a critter. But prowess is awesome.
Thanks again for all the advice. I'll be at the next raffle looking for pink front stabbing unicorn horns...

Strictly speaking, it's a net damage loss when using it for training. Even if you get a light version with 9 second loads, it's always going to be strictly inferior to a not-repeater because of the push time. That is, it's always going to have an extra second or two stacked on top of the load, which can't be removed. And crossbows deal damage based on load-time (partially), so that's time it costs you to use but doesn't pay you back.
Now, I hear they are great for PvP. Or if you're willing to walk around with multiple repeaters, you can just fire off a shot at the start of a weapon routine to keep crossbow moving. But for pure training, they're not good.
Currently my favorite crossbow is the 9 second load 'laminated oak and horn' from Ilaya Tapai or whatever that river-elf village is down past Leth. They cost 1.8 plat kronar, and are the same as the various version you will see on trader plaza tables for 10-1000 plat. So don't get ripped off.

Bows, crossbows, sling. It's been so long since I used snipe, and it's not on the wiki, that I can't remember if it actually offers any bonus damage or accuracy. I know it...kind of...hides your name but not quite.
What I'm saying is, it's basically useless except PvP.
>Also been hearing alot about light throwing axes, I always assumed axes were heavy thrown that's definitely not the case?
Throwing axes are light thrown and small (medium) edge. Hurling axes are heavy thrown and large edge.

Pretty sure there's an accuracy+damage boost for using snipe (and backstab), but on top of that it also trains stealth notably better than poach/ambush.
Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

Like I said, it's been years since I used it, and there's no info on the wiki. If someone can confirm with details other than Yep!, I'll update.

Good point. I always forget that, apologies.

I'll agree with what Badgopher said. They're more of a PvP thing but some people swear by the 14 shot repeater for use in PvE. I'd recommend picking the reduced load LX he suggested or a forester crossbow, or get a stonebow with a crafted stone shard (they don't lodge so you just need one). Stonebows are going to see a damage increase when Tinkering finally hits Prime.

On the topic of the tyrium light throwing axe, I asssume it would be 40-41 stones. What kind of strength does one require to get the lowest RT for swing/hurl at that weight?
Or even better since i would be purchasing the less expensive version, a haralun/kertig light throwing axe at 45 stone. Strength requirements for that weight?
