A slender gold-tipped lance is a heavy thrown and halberd pole-ranged weapon.

You are confident that it could do:
heavy puncture damage
no slice damage
fair impact damage

You are confident that the lance is poorly balanced and is fairly suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the gold-tipped lance is of average strength, and is in pristine condition.

The gold-tipped lance is made with metal.
The gold-tipped lance feels light.
You are certain that the gold-tipped lance is worth exactly 625 kronars

It appraises has a heavy throw and halberd weapon, but it teachs pike.

Pikes: xx 44% concentrating
Halberds: xx 49% clear

Should be pike and heavy throw, what it appraises at is the bug part.

There are a couple weapons (mostly lances) like this, all in the pike/halberd set. Were originally pike, then made halberd by choice/accident (and taught halberd) then switched back to pike.

There will be options to pick from. There will rarely be a case where the NPC says, "Here is your sword, go have fun."

The golden lance is ment to be a halberd not pike, so if anything the fact that it teachs pike is the bug not the appraisel.

Consider yourself lucky that you have an older one that teaches pike if you like using lances as it is one of the best one handed pikes.

You can buy one from SCC that is halberd with the same appraise for a couple golds.

As stated they used to be pike and were for some reason switched to a halberd weapon.

How can something called a lance be similar to a halberd? How is that logical? It does no slice damage, it's a puncturing weapon which means it's a lance/spear weapon not a halberd.
The bug is in the appraisal.

Under the same reasoning how can a Neglio be a pike sense its slice primary?

The SCC lance is a one handed puncture based halberd and the Shard javelin is a one handed puncture based pike. All I can imagine is that the GMs decided that there should be a halberd and a pike version so they changed the lance from pike to halberd.

Yeah.. Halberds were designed for swinging -and- thrusting, not just swinging.

Yeah in a lot of ways it seems like pikes and halberds are just interchangeable. With halberds mainly being puncture/slice(but heavier) and pikes normaly being mainly puncture (but normaly lighter) with many exceptions in both weapon classes. It can definately be confuseing especiely when you come accros a feather tufted spear(halberd) or a pole axe (pike). Basicly the only way to really know is through appraisel. Even that isnt perfect because of the lances out there that appraise as halberd but teach pike(like the original posters). Witch would be great for pike users but blows for me sense the only pole weapon I train.

Lances need their own skill. Will solve 2 problems...

All lances would teach lance skill to avoid confusion...

Lance skill would be the determining factor in the outcome of jousts rather than the "higher polearm" skill.

See the logic in that?
