Just wondering if anyone can make a fairly good axe, since all I seem to see are basties and broadswords. I've been using a battle-axe I picked up from pirates or something, and the fact that the impact damage is enough for me to knock things around like a blunt is nice.

Why the blazes do I smell like sulphur?

forged HE battle axes can be l/h/h d/w well constructed or l/g/m d/w well constructed at 65 stones, and I think as low as 60 stones too.

Different weapons have different strengths.
A 45 stone axe is something like p/h/l d/r mod strong or p/m/m d/r mod strong
around 50 is p/h/m d/w

I just think the p/h/h or p/gr/mod is the best for that weapon's template and maximizes the strengths of the template. At 45 stones a longsword is l/h/f (close to mod) p/r which is most likely a better weapon than the battle axe at that weight, though I haven't compared them to see exactly how they line up.

Oh, it's poor puncture, not low, that was incorrect on my prior post.

28 stone battle axes HE, poor / heavy / fair/ dismal/ reason / well constructed or 50 is poor / heavy / mod / dismal/ well suited / well coinstructed. 60 stone is heavy slice heavy imp.

now hearing of great slice is a first for me, will try to make one later today to see if its real though my comments here are not to challenege bracto's claim one bit, you are one of the best at this

Since I don't know about what's possible under the forging system, how do those axes compare to a broadsword or longsword?

The impact can make a rather hefty difference.

I have 2 forged greatswords (yeah I know they aint HE).

Both bonecrushing slice but 1 has more impact (moderate vs heavy if I remember right). Roughly the same weight (76 vs 80 stone) and the 80 stoner hits much much better.

One of these days Ill get around to testing a full weight greatsword (would be 100 stones) and see what kind of whallop that thing can pack.

Personally I really like longswords over broadswords. I find the impact at the cost of some balance is well worth it. But I also use shield, so if you mainly parry, you might find that to balance out differently.

simply said

more baalnce = better defensivly
more impact = better aggressivly

if you have lots of strength I suggest cutting balance to get more power
if you have alot of defensive and you use lighter weapons ME LE etc more balance will suit you. I have 70+ Strength Dancing bear and that extra impact and suitedness makes a hell of a difference for me so I could give a crap about balance. owever if you had like 20-30 strength I could see the impact and suitedness being less important and balance being more key. It's all how you play your character neither is better then the other. I personally have a bastie with nice balance if i'm in defensive situations and greatsword/claymore with nasty power for attacking thats the way I do it.
