Depending on your stamina, adjust as you see fit:
feint draw sweep lunge thrust jab dodge
You can also generally repeat sweep thrust jab and usually come out slightly balance positive

I was taking a walk in the park when this post said I stole its purse. I tried to get away, but it just kept on coming. So I had to beat it to death with this purse I found.

Nah, its a jabber..also need to try to keep balance too..my set-up with my sabre is as follows:
>>Dodge/feint/draw/sweep/slice/chop/thrust/Dodge
if said critter is STILL alive after that go to this:
>>Feint/draw/sweep/slice/chop/lunge/dodge
the only bad thing about using the jabber is how the defensive penalty is on thrust and lunge, its a huge penalty to your defense depending on the critters balance and next attack, and if you can recover from that lunge/thrust. Other than that, that is the combo that I use for my all my jabbers. LE/ME/HE all three.

If its got two legs and you hear a thud...don't panic...I just killed another one.

I use parry feint draw sweep thrust jab then if I have dominating or better position I go to lunge/thrust/jab. If position falls below dominating after a jab, or if you start getting fatigued, revert to the beginning and roll back into it.

<<the best various combos are for a sabre>>
1) hide, stalk, backstab, jab, dodge.
2) feint, feint lunge, thrust, jab, dodge.

>Really? Are sabres worthless now? Because mine's a glaes 26 stone forged one so I'd be disappointed if there are no good combos for it. What do you suggest?
I wouldn't say worthless. Especially a glaes one. I'd say there are more high damage moves for a sabre that provide noticable defense penalties as compared to high damage moves with scims.
I've tried to use puncture weapons, like the HE cinqueda, and my slicing HE simply outclasses it for damage, balance, and a lack of defense penalty save for sweep (last manuever = sweep). The combos for a puncture HE are similar for a puncture ME.

Now, yesterday I was looking for a good combo for a jabbing LE weapon. And while Phii's Keep is probably more detailed, www.olwydd.org does have some very good combo-flow charts that I tested. And they do work well!

By and large, yes, jabbing weapons are worthless, because thrust and lunger are the only 'damage' commands in the combos, and they have disgusting defense penalties, as well as high fatigue hits.
If you're not a thief, you're going to see markedly better results by switching to a scimitar. And you can probably make a tidy sum by selling the saber TO a thief.

I'm very sad. How much do you advise me to sell it for if I do, I've been away for quite a while and can't remember how much I bought it for in 2003/2004. :(
Thanks once again Ryeka for the link, v. useful.

>I've never had an issue useing jabing weapons. Yes there are penalties but if you train shield it's penalized less.
It's not so much about the straight penalties, though frankly at sub 20th level, jabbers are nearly impossible to train for non-thiefs, because the defense penalty, and the fatigue drain.
It's about the damage over time you could do with a jabber vs. a slicer with equitable stats. The slicer is simply greater.

Some of us continue to use thrusting weapons just to be stubborn. I imagine my character using (insert thrust/puncture) style weapon and damn it that's what he's going to use! The mechanical penalties are nasty though as has been mentioned.

I continue to hold out hope that the new (well, was new) combat system will one day become more friendly for jabbers. The idea that lunge, thrust, jab somehow works better than the reverse still appalls me. I would think that jabbers could have a somewhat more elegant set of maneuvers in order to do damage through superior balance and position with a lunge for the coup de grace, rather than just lunging and thrusting all the time.

I always liked the ability to thrust. Its does horrifically good damage although the defense penalty is weighty. Generally after a jab combo to build defense ill work into the next combo and pause before the thrust, waiting for the mob to attack me, then thrust (works well on players as well). Generally if im just dancing scim is preferable unless you have a glaes sabre and jab dance I suppose.
