So what's the best, and how do I know? on 01/15/2007 01:20 PM CST

Okay, I've been gone for a while, so bear with me if I say anything idiotic. It seems that player forging has come a long way since the last time I hunted seriously, so I need to update my arsenal. My question is: What am I looking for, and how do I know? Is there a website out there somewhere that lists the stats of the best currently available weapons? I have no idea what the caps are -- for instance I have a heavy slice scimitar made by Mendasity, and I assume it's just not possible to forge a scim with better than heavy slice, so the only way to improve upon it would be to make one that weighs less. Or am I backwards and I actually WANT a heavier weapon? Does weight in stones make any difference in how hard it hits, or does it only affect how long my RT will be swinging it and therefore I want as lightweight as possible?

I'm in the market for... let's see. A slicing HE that's NOT a 'broadsword' (for RP reasons, sorry, no wiggle room there) and also one that the description doesn't matter. A slicing ME and a jabbing ME (the latter is not very important). A slicing LE and a jabbing LE. And a light thrown.

Thanks for any help! My AIM is ChaosPearl if anybody has some time to answer moronic questions.

If you've got the arms for it, go for one of those poor/great/heavy battle axes... unless the dismal balance puts you off.

Heh. Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think a battle axe is going to do it -- the reason for not wanting a broadsword is that this particular character won't use a weapon she considers overly masculine -- anything with a connotation of heavy, ugly, blood-and-guts gruntgruntgrunt. She's got an Elven longsword, but, well, it sucks.

I don't know if this is what you want or not, but you could take a peek at the gleaming longsword from Theren Keep.

You might want to commission a trader to check their shops: Sometimes some very pretty weapons can be found there.

An iltesh is a slicing and jabbing ME all in one. Elven fencing sword too, can usually find one on a trader's table for around less than what you'd pay for a forged scimitar.

I think the best bet will be to either buy a broad and have it altered, or buy a non-standard weapon. Non-standard would be something like the ice blade you can get with premium points.

Huh... basties are dye-able now? Nice. I didn't think you could dye scripted weapons!

I do seem to have an awful lot of premie points, but I'm totally unfamiliar with the loot that's available. I'll definitely look into a weapon... although I'm not sure I want anything too wildly expensive. It'd freak me out and I'd never feel safe using it!

Along the same line of Kleis' suggestion, you could also have the bastard sword hilted on Hara'jaal, I think.

If you're against broadswords and battle axes, I could whip you up a nice 32 stone Longsword. It appraises L/H/F F/R with Fairly Sturdy construction.

How hard is it to get your hands on a glaes scimitar these days? Just wondering if they are worth the price or if I should just train up some strength and carry a forged weapon.

Having inherited one recently, I sure do like the great slice versus heavy. I don't know that I like it well enough to pay the however-many-plats they're going for these days, were I to have to buy one for myself.

<<Weapon weight? Balance/suitability?

No idea, I guess I am looking at a forged ME that is a heavy slice and gives the most damage.

This is the hardest hitting normaly metal scim I know of.
appraise scim careful
>
A bone-hilted scimitar is a medium edged melee-ranged weapon.

You are certain that it could do:
poor puncture damage
heavy slice damage
low impact damage

You are certain that the scimitar is fairly balanced and is reasonably suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the bone-hilted scimitar is fairly sturdy, and is in pristine condition.

The bone-hilted scimitar is made with metal.
You estimate that the bone-hilted scimitar weighs around 30 stones.
You are certain that the bone-hilted scimitar is worth exactly 378 dokoras.
Roundtime: 16 seconds.
>
Twelvetoes squints at the balance beam needle and says, "The scimitar weighs about thirty-six stones," and puts the scimitar on the counter.

I can see that it has one category difference between the 2 in impact ... poor instead of low. I have just gotten the RT down to 1/2/2, and I am wondering what difference I will see in my hits with a weapon a few stones heavier and with 2 more points of Str and Agility (so that I would have the 36 stone scim at 1/2/2 Rts).

you may want to compare your scim with a p/h/l, it may compare the same, i've experienced that in the mid to low thirties range. only thing i've heard of above the p/h/l f/r scim is a hand axe i think that was in the upper 40's? someone refresh my memory please.

A hand axe.. at least any weight that I've tried all the way up to 80 stones... will not hit Heavy slice. Maybe somebody with more mech than me could get one to heavy slice, but I've never gotten one that high.
