Okay, I am playing a Ranger, circle 45. He has gotten into jousting and since I am backtraining Longbow, short bow, halberd and two handed sword I figured I should throw heavy plate in there.

How does one go about back training armor? Any tips?

I got a set of silver-white heavy plate from the armrory in Theren Keep, hp gauntlets and helm from Haven and wonder if this is a good enough set up.

If you're gonna back train, might as well do more than 1 armor. 3 armor are pretty easy to lock and does not require much/any swapping. I'd go LC shirt, HP legs/hands, LP bascinet (dirge) or HC helm (haven). If you'd rather have cloth to mix with leather, kill a fire sprite (w/ greatswords) and take it's scorched shroud. Also pick up more melee weapons, unless you plan to use those bows at melee.

Feel free to IM me (hanryudr) if you want some more specific tips.

Turn down your evasion. You learn more armor by parrying, blocking, and being hit than you do by evading.

I went with an all HP setup, it is the only armor other than Leather and Shields I intend to do any training in, well maybe some HC (got the gloves for it) but this is about it. I'll get it to where the hinderance is real low. It is all forged (Half-plate is Red Arch forged).

You are holding a ceremonial battle shield with obsidian chips hammered into the image of a warhorse in your left hand.
You are wearing some plate greaves, some gauntlets, a great helm and some half plate.

I am currently very hidered. If I was just in the Half-plate I would be lightly hindered. I got 39 ranks in it, just a rank or two or three from 30 in strength, agility and reflex. I haven't backtrained it a great deal, I could probably have double the ranks by now.

The answer to the following question dictates the way I will backtrain from here on out.

What will be the progression (estimated) of training of hinderance? Will I have to go to 100 ranks? 160 ranks like I got in leathers?

Also, a question about the shield. It is only for jousting (the only reason I am backtraining HP and Halberd). It imposes moderate hinderance with low to great protection. How important is the sheield in jousting and if it is very important, is there a low hindering high protection shield I could find for about 20 plat?

The plate will never be like the leathers as far as hindrance is concerned.

You are holding a warrior's tower shield in your left hand.
You are wearing some plate greaves, some obsidian black gauntlets, an obsidian black helm and some half plate.

If you were only maneuvering in some half plate you would be lightly hindered.
But considering all the armor and shields you are wearing or carrying, you are currently somewhat hindered.

If I remove the shield...
But considering all the armor and shields you are wearing or carrying, you are currently fairly hindered.

That's with 240 plate, 320 shield. All gear was forged for minimum hindrance because of jousting, except the gauntlets which I wear during normal combat.

>How important is the sheield in jousting

The type of shield you use can make all the difference. Particularly at lower ranks in plate/shield, I've seen folks do better with tanned shields than with towers, mostly because of the reduced hindrance. This is why I desperately crave a jousting shield from that quest. My problem is I can't find one for sale for plats, everyone want PayPal. Anyway, if you've got one for sale for plat, you're looking at a motivated buyer.

[P]>tap shield on rack

You tap a white gold jousting shield inset with a fiery black opal raven atop a steel wire rack.
[P]>l shield on rack

Strong steel rivets attach a white gold covering to the ironwood shield. The opalescent raven glistens with an almost radiant inner fire when it catches the light, displaying bold shades of blue, green, and red. On the back of the shield is what looks to be flattened hinges and a squashed dragon bloodlock.

You are certain that it imposes a low maneuvering hinderance.
This shield is large in size.
You are certain that the shield offers fair to great protection.
You are certain that it could do:
no puncture damage
no slice damage
great impact damage
You are certain that the shield is poorly balanced and is reasonably suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.
You are certain that the jousting shield is well constructed, and is in pristine condition.
It appears that the jousting shield can be worn on the left arm.
You are confident that the jousting shield weighs around 105 stones.
You are certain that the jousting shield is worth exactly 40000 lirums.

So how MANY thousand of plats for an altered one? Being a barbarian, I cannot wear this on my left arm and use 2he. You should not be able to use it from horseback either since it is a LARGE shield. Magdardr

Right before the Leth fest auction somebody offered me one for 4k plat. I'd assume that's right around the going rate nowadays. I said no.

Just tested this while mounted....

This shield is large in size.

It will tell you when you appraise it. There is small, medium and large. Weather you can wear it on your arm or not depends on your guild. Your gulid also factors into how much hinderance you can work off wearing HP as well. If you are a ranger... I'd reallllllyyy suggest going with either leather or LC and putting HP aside.
