I'm curious how a good forged greatsword stands up to a good forged claymore. Most specifically I'm curious how they compare on balance and suitedness.

claymores are always dismal balance, greatswords poor. Claymroes are more suited than greatswords. For example at 80 stones a claymore is d/e while a greatsword is p/w.

Can a two-handed sword be ground to be f/w and still retain a good edge?

Retaining a good edge is not a problem. Edge reduces impact and has no effect on balance or suited. f/w is the tough part. possible I think.
