Alright, question for you gurus. I have 80 ranks in HE, and currently 29 in 2HE. Is there largely a point of diminishing return in ranks for HE? Just thinking once you get the strength to wield a 2HE at its lowest RT which is the same as an HE at its lowest RT. Might as well swing a two hander correct?

You can hold shields and use HE. In general, if you use parry as a defense you are pretty limited in your 2HE selections if you don't want to penalize it (or have crappy bonus to parry from the balance of your weapon and have a harder time hitting things).

Without some kind of other bonus, or part of the system to handle them, I really wouldn't suggest going with unbalanced weapons except in situations where you don't have to worry about defending yourself and you can hit the target reliably.

Mostly agreed; can't you use an arm worn shield?

No.

HE is a great weapon category. In my opinion 2HE is better, yes, for the power-gamer mostly because it's higher damage in the same amount of time. But honestly all edged weapons are all very trainable for your entire career. If you're the type of person that MUST have the highest damage possible I'd recommend switching to 2HE.

A couple things to consider. One is hand-held vs. arm-worn shields. Hand-held tower shields will always be much better, especially for non-Paladins. However, for my purposes arm-worn has always handled all of my shield needs very efficiently, so I'm glad I switched. Another thing to consider is DUAL WIELD, which will be coming out... eventually. It might actually work out that dual-wielding two HEs or an HE and an ME will turn out to be higher damage then a single 2HE, there is no saying.

Navak covered it well. Even if you DO switch, as a serious 2HE user I'd avoid templates like the greatsword that offer phenomenal (and often superfluous) damage at the cost of poor balance. If you intend to use parry at all (which is recommended, given it's the best defense in a multi opponent situation), I would stick with something like your standard bastard sword that still gives you higher damage then any HE but is pretty much the same balance-wise.

You are Malkien, a dashing Barbarian. Huzzah!
You are Apis, a legendary Cleric in your own head.
You are Ragesong. What sort of Kaldar is a Bard, anyways, doofus?
You are also Pellazan (WM), Essatariol (Ranger) and running out of sig space.

Oh and I forgot to say that you shouldn't choose a weapon or armor you don't like. If it's a choice between something you like and something "better" choose the thing you like.

It will be easier on you in the long run to use what you like, even if it does reduce your potential in combat.

Navak- Yeah, I would like to stick with my HE, would a heavier HE blade make up the difference?

Diminished Angel, completely forgot about dual wield.

HE can be forged at different weights, which will increase damage. Ultimately, stone for stone they won't outdamage 2HE at equal ranks and stats. I know you can get 34 stone broadswords that are l/h/f f/r, which is a very solid HE power wise. However, it won't make up the difference, as at 36 stones (roughly same stats for min RT) you can get a l/s/f r/r bastie in 2HE.

Navak is right though, train what you like. There's no sense in backtraining 51 ranks of 2HE if you aren't going to enjoy using 2HE when it's your primary weapon.

If you're looking for pure destructive power, a HE battle-axe is good. The balance sucks, so parry gets tanked, but it does hit very hard. Good when you can use a 70+ stone HE with min (or nearly) RT. Otherwise, broadswords are much much greater.

Dual wield? Feh. You're just as well planning your progression around necromancers. It'll come, but make yourself happy now, because it might be a few years.

And if you reach that point, might as well grab a hurling axe... good stats, plus you can chuck it at something if you so desire (75 stones)
