So, I was under the impression that limb damage per hit was capped somewhere around extremely heavy (or whatever). The other day, though, I took out the old joke sword (992 stone greatsword - low/bonecrushing/great dismal/well). It used to be impossible to use, as it would give a roundtime of twenty seconds and drop me to 20% fatigue with 40 str/dis/sta. However, thanks to the new RT cap (and some unknown fatigue change), I can swing this monster at 6 seconds and it only drops me to about 95% fatigue.

Aaannnyway... I was hacking away at the goblins when suddenly I (and my two companions) noticed that I had landed a massive strike to a goblin's arm. This is with no sort of spell on myself or the goblin. Could it be that the massive size of the weapon allowed it to exceed the limb damage cap?

I think I've landed massive hits to limbs too. I just don't think that it translated into the same amount of damage that a massive strike to the torso would.

I land massive limb hits all the time, the cap varies from critter to critter, it's probably some kind of stamina thing. It also varies depending on what limb you hit, hand hits cap lower than arm/leg hits.

The extremely heavy messaging cap appears to only be in PvP. It's there for sure though.

You can hit creature limbs harder, but really it's just a big trick to make you feel better about your skills. :-D

You'll notice if you land a demolishing/devastating/overwhelming/whatever strike to an arm the creature doesn't die(unless already hurt of course).

The vitality damage is probably capping around the same place 'extremely heavy' is.

According to Navak it takes 3 big limb hits to kill anything. So that puts the vitality damage it takes under 50% somewhere.
