Cross the river into kelpies and wood trolls, they will work you a bit higher and have boxes to open. Afterwards you can move from there to other Therengian hunting areas.

It seems like such a terrible shame that innocent civilians have to get hurt in wars, otherwise combat would be such a wonderfully healthy way to rid the human race of unneeded trash.

Sand sprites are the popular next step, can use them to near 100 ranks from where you're at.

without swirling winds i think you're just barely not getting beat up by eels. If you're that cocky you could go try beiswurms.

If you were getting lit up by multiple rock trolls but were okay with justa couple, I suggest trying reavers. They drop boxes sparingly, but the are skinnable and scrapable. Just be careful. With the windhound adds, they can get a lil swarmy. Also, if rock trolls are a bit much, I wouldn't reccomend sand sprites. At 55 ranks of HE, you are going to have trouble hitting them well in any event.

hmm think you are on the right track with reavers.

it doesn't have to be something i can dance with for hours. like i said i'll probably continue training defenses/multi in eels as long as they'll teach. just want something to get my weapons going a little better.

then maybe i can work shortbow on the hounds.

reavers are working out pretty good

Short Bow: 47 07% perplexing

hounds are moving short bow good.

only complaints are i can't tingle or frostbite reavers. but i can hit them anyway. wish i could get their skins a bit more consistently. about what do you need skinning wise?

i'm 50 now

To kill a sand sprite (singular, which is rare to find and rarer still to keep for any length of time), about 30-40 ranks.

To kill a few sprites (3 or less in a group), 40 to 50.

To kill sprites in a group of 4-6, 50-70

To kill as many sprites as you want regardless of situation (unless their evil queen overlord comes out of her pit), 70+.

>>about what do you need skinning wise?

I am getting skins probably 80% of the time at 51 ranks when I skin with my Keyiru (ME slicer). SOme of those are good, some come out blood-soaked. I always get a skin of some kind using a light edge to skin. Agility is 16. Not sure if relfexes plays a part, but that is at 20.

>>To kill a few sprites (3 or less in a group), 40 to 50.

40 seems a bit low, at least with unbonused or midified ranks. You'll hit at 5o ranks, but for me personally, the hits aren't as hard as I'd want them to be. The real issues is that at 50 it is gonna be rewal hard to kill fast enough to keep it at just 3 anyway. (see following quote)

Yeah, my agility and reflex is not even close to yours. I'm getting like maybe 50-60%. Didn't know skinning was stat dependent. It's good enough to learn so, that's fine with me.

4 start to nick me up a bit, but I just retreat and use my bow when that happens. Can't really get through the reavers shields with my short bow though. And I got a couple boxes and they seem to be right about at my level. So, I think I found a new home.

Yup. Agility and Discipline, plus a LE weapon helps a lot.

Kneeling and using an actual skinning knife (http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=20&category=31&topic=3&message=15468) also help.

It's not. It's a lot harder the farther below 20 agility you are, but beyond that it's all about your weapon. Heavy hitters like anything 2-handed or heavy/large type weapons means you kill fast. Anything smaller and you might as well be using the jadewater carving knife.

>>The real issues is that at 50 it is gonna be rewal hard to kill fast enough to keep it at just 3 anyway. (see following quote)

Learn the cave first. There are plenty of rooms and times when the gen isn't as fast, allowing you to kill at your leisure without having to worry that a fourth sprite will stop you from even hitting. When I first started hunting sprites (prior to the gen tweaks that put critters in player-occupied rooms), I kept to the western-most section over by the foremast. There seems to be a slower gen in those two rooms, whereas down on the main level I was constantly getting barraged by 4-6 sprites. The path on the right that goes up to the swimming rooms and the quicksand are also typically slow-gen rooms, the northerly parts in particular.

Hrm. Guess that explains it. As noted before, agility is 15 and my guy uses LE and ME.

>>Learn the cave first.

Thanks. I'll have to play with this. I have rarely left that first batch of rooms after you enter the cave, and I always assumed that going deeper would gen about the same. That and I welcomed the swarmyness anyway. Still, it is good to know.
