Oafs/Gargs? on 03/30/2012 06:15 PM CDT
Okay, so I've heard tell of oafs, but the only thing I find on E-pedia is mutilated transmogrified oafs outside the N gate, but they appear nowhere on the map.
Right now caimans are teaching just fine at:
Shield 127
Parry 124
Eva 118
MO 130
LC 105
Ref 20
Agi 22
Str 23
Sta 20
But with MO now dabbling at 130 with 4 in the room, I'm pretty sure my caiman days are coming to a halt. Which is just as well; I loathe the trip to TC. I'm down for anywhere in Zoluren, even Shard if I stay there for a while. At least they have a bank and a repair shop and a tanner, unlike TC.
I would go to Leucros, but have no earthly idea how to get to Ratha. So there's that. Am I viable candidate for Gargoyles outside the crossing? They seem so perfect with being able skin, drop boxes, and gems. Last time I went the NTR to fight the immature/young firecats and fire maidens/sprites (about 10 defensive points ago, per skill) 4 in the room messed me up pretty bad. Crocs, too. In fact I lost a sweet, sweet, throwing hammer because of it.
I know I could totally be less lazy and go around creature to creature to see what works, but I know most of you have been around longer than a coon's age and know where to find good huntin'. Honestly I'm for anything in Zol/Ilithi. I'd be cool with Ratha too, if only I knew the way. Boxies and skins are a plus, but not mandatory.
Climbing 120
Swimming 121
Perception 135
In case some may be hard to get to or hard to see.
Thanks

Those were a long-running invasion creature as part of the Lyras war. They're gone now. Other than that I am bad at hunting advice...

Honestly, my suggestion would be snow gobs on Aesry (also skinnable, with boxes/gems/coins). If I'm not mistaken you should be good for first tier. For travel you have a couple of choices. You head up to Haven and take the Lybadel directly to Aesry. I don't really recommend this due to travel time but it is an option. You could also take the kree'la from Haven or the Skirr from Crossing, both of which go to Ratha. From there it's generally pretty easy to get a gate over to Aesry. For now at least.

<<I would really love to see the return (in the next major event) of tiered long-term invasion critters. The inquisitorial forces in Shard, Lyras troops, etc were GREAT>>
I would love this. The best part about them was the constant gen, plus they were tiered so you knew what sort you encountered whether you could handle 'em.
And, I'd love inquisitorial forces to fight against. Last time I tried I was only mid-40s circle and I couldn't do much against 'em. Now I could do some "damnage..." Just not in a justice zone. :-). make 'em about the level of shalswar and it would be swwwwwweeet.

There's a lot of really good options in that range.
http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Blue-belly_Crocodile
Ye Olde Crocs are wonderful, but the reeds/maze can be a tad annoying. I score them an 8/10. It's a hefty walk back to Crossings, but a script will do it in 1 minute flat. Or a few steps north and the ferry takes you to Riverhaven.
http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Grave_Worm
Grave worms are an often under rated critter. They're awesome, swarmy, light damagers. The downside is that you have to go through Germishden to get in there, though as long as someone's hunting you should be fine.
http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Graverobber_%281%29
These guys are probably too hard, and are in Ain, and I don't think there's exactly a huge population there. No autopaths either, so it's a mandatory 5 or 15 minute ferry ride then a hike to Hibi or Shard.
http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Mutant_togball
If you're doing undead already, these guys are awesome. Skinnable and loot dropping, I would assume they drop boxes, but I only use loot treasure, so not sure. Swarmy, light hitters, in Boar Clan. Downsides are of course undead, and in boar clan. They're hands down my favorite critter in this range. I love 'em.

>> I think I was liking la'tami at that range, possibly frostweyr bears. La'tami can be found in both Shard/Ilithi and Aesry, and bears are a short trip west of Shard into Forfedhdar.
La'tami teach past 250. They will be way too hard for him.
Frost bears are also terrible idea, last time I checked they had a ridiculous frost shout type thing that did considerable damage and very hard to block/dodge.

Not reasonably. By 200-250, you should have moved on to something else. La'tami might be doable with those skills.

I'm pretty sure this is turned off. I didn't notice it while hunting them recently. That said, they're too much for the posted skills.

Elanthipedia lists them as 130-190. That was about my experience with them.

I transitioned to bears sometime while doing la'tami so wouldn't recommend them until around 140s or 150s at least. However that said, they no longer have the crazy attack.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went to sleucs in Ratha, but they weren't swarmy enough and didn't move weapons quick enough. I'm a little scared of la'tami and bears but they're my next target. Morah vines and creepers were great for defense, but move weapons at a snails pace, and so did the marauders they like to hang out with.
As for now, I made the looooong trip to Aesry. And I'm pretty mad, because I have to climb a gap to the snow goblins. My climbing is 151, which I'm proud of because I'm survival secondary, and it's over 10 points highest than my defense, and a good 20 over my weapons (primary). What ranks of climbing do I need to get to a critter that starts teaching well at 120? If I came all this way in vain...grrrr.
Thanks everyone

Hrm, you shouldn't be having any trouble getting in there. I'm pretty sure I had someone in there with less than 150 ranks at one point and I don't remember ever getting stuck, although I could be forgetting something.
