So...I'm pretty proficient with moruryn, can dance with two (if I'm parrying and not shielding) and I was hoping there's a comparable creature somewhere closer to Crossings. I can also eat the peccs in Rossmans and while the hunting is great...the healing isn't. There's empaths there but I don't gweth for RP reasons so I can't ever get one.
Any information is appreciated. Also...if Geni's are close...what kind of perception would I need to get into the area? I tried a while back but no joy.

Yeah...Geni's aren't for me then...I wasn't really sure that perception did much so I didn't train it except as a circling tool until about 50th. So I'm busy backtraining it now. 250 and climbing but nowhere near what it would have to be.
Bargs work great, but I hate being limited to a time of day. I'll give that gate of souls thing a try...where's it at? It sounds like I'd need a blessed weapon

>>You could hunt for the front end as well, I guess.
Or the service provider. Although I heard with the Web migration their gen rate got all bugged up and you can never find them anymore. It's expensive to hunt there, though.

I was only asking because the numbers that were being given to hunt them seem awfully high.
I was getting in as a ranger with around 210 in perception (no boosts), and killing them easily with just under 200 in bow (200 + STW). Hiding was a bit tricky with more than one in the room with around 210 (210 + EM + SOTT), and occassionally I could hold my own at melee with 180ish defense and around that ME.
All told, I was probably over hunting, but was 2/3 shotting geni, and leucros were about the same. I guess the number that struct me as high was the perception number. It doesn't take that much to get in and out.

It does. You're a Ranger so it's easier for you.
As a Barbarian, the last time I tried finding my way in (a month or so ago) I was in the 320s. It took a decent amount of time for me to get in and out while dancing Eagle.

Just FYI, a GM recently stated that there is no perception penalty imposed by wearing head/eye armor.

If they're that small it wouldn't do me any good to get in there anyways.
A pretty stark reminder that I'm WAY behind on my perception skill.

Problems in the Gate of Souls:
Learning the ropes inside takes some time. Its a difficult area to learn because the lava field (first hunting area) constantly shifts. This area itself won't give you any trouble at all, Red. The critters cap at under 200 ranks, roughly similar to Crossing thugs, but running back through the area bleeding/poisoned can cause trouble, as it can be a long process.
Once in the temple, things get a bit more interesting. As a warmie with strong parry skills, the Westanuryns probably won't give you too much trouble, but if your MO isn't up to par, the no-damage stings can add up in a hurry thanks to the poison. They are also extremely puncture resistant, might even be puncture immune. Takes me forever to kill them with sev. pikes, and only slams do decent damage. The atik'ets there use TM (fire shard, fireball?) on par with their weapon skills, and do so frequently. The atik'et version of these spells have armor-damaging potential. I had to fix my field plate a few times from being there. Some of them also carry heavier weapons. The scimitars are pretty survivable, but the greatswords can be a problem.
Out on the cliffs, probably more where you'd be hunting, you have a few different types of firecats, which ambush. I believe the atik'ets still cast, and still fight well with their weapons.
The biggest problem, however, with the gate of souls is that you can't drag a body back through the tunnel. If you die, you're stuck until a cleric and an empath come to you. Seeing that the area in question is largely unpopulated, you aren't likely be found if you die. Even if someone does find you, they have to bring an empath and cleric to you, rather than take you to the healers of body and spirit. I like the area due to large space, high spawn rate, and generally unpopulated nature, but it has some serious drawbacks. Hunt at your own risk.
