Is the type of loot (box, gem, coin) a critter carries generated at the moment you loot a dead critter, or is it predetermined/generated at the moment the critter is actually generated in the game?
Presumably when the creature is searched. If it was based on when the creature is generated, then Loot Treasure would cough up blank results when the creature was supposed to have generated a box, instead Loot Treasure will always provide treasure (assuming it's a treasure dropping creature).
I suppose it's possible the game gens the treasure on creature spawn and the re-gens if a box should have been the result of Loot Treasure, but this seems like an waste of system resources over just having it gen on the search.

Okie, then would it be too much to ask that a character's primary skill set determine an increased odds of getting something more suited to what they might need? Example: survivalists get a serious boost in odds in favor of finding boxes when looting a critter. I spent 8 to 10 hours over the course of a couple days and for all that time I may have found 2 or 3 boxes.
the chances of finding a box are random - they don't pop up more for any guild or skill set more than others, which imho is as it should be - because Not all survival-primes pick boxes, and some survival secondary and tertiary do. That being said, there are some critters that seem more likely to drop a box than others.
You can expect a little bit of relief in this area however in 3.0 - because both the act of disarming a box, and picking it will both teach locksmithing.

Oh and last one, DR at any given time has a population of weenies that will criticize at the drop of a hat, don't take things personally it happens to everyone.

Yes.
Because skill based game.
If you're spending 10 hours and getting 2 boxes, that's your fault. Find something better. It's a crappy realization that sometimes we have to make sacrifices, and that we can't train every skill at every rank on every critter. And that sounds trite and bitter because it is. I hate having to choose the 'good spawning critter that drops boxes (which I don't do) and trains awesome but isn't skinnable' vs. 'the crap spawn 1 hit kills me but is skinnable' critters.
Adding nothing to the conversation since 1834.

what are you hunting? there may be other options that are better, I think currently there is a pretty clear path from 0-800 ranks for box skills with box critters. However they may not always be positioned where you want them which is basically what KROONERMANREVENGE was saying. Sometimes you have to give a little on something.

I've posted this question to Abilities, Skills, and Magic > Survival Skills - Economic, but it's in response to the topic here. What is your 0-800 box progression? Please answer in http://forums.play.net/forums/DragonRealms/Abilities,%20Skills%20and%20Magic/Survival%20Skills%20-%20Economic/view/1560
Thanks!
