>>If you are backtraining defenses, you may want to consider being a little less intimidating -- perhaps by using a weapon you are obviously unskilled in.
This doesn't work if you've trained brawling, for whatever reason

There is also a possibility that you may be buggy. If what I suggested above doesn't work, try assisting about it. Some of those critters really shouldn't be fleeing, which suggests you may be slightly broken.

He started to sing as he tackled that thing
That couldn't be done and he did it."

So it shoudln't be looking at brawling skill if we're holding a weapon in our hand? It happens for everyone i've talked to in TF. If you train brawling expect critters to run from you while backtraining weapons, which means we have to go to dumb critters.

I am curretnly having this problem. I have 150+ in brawling and was looking to backtrain some weapons. But I haven't found anything that won't retreat on sight from me. Anyone have a "dumb" creature ladder for backtraining. Things like eels which wouldn't off hand seem to be inteligent run from me, Does that mean I am buggy Dart?
Has there been any talk about turning off retreating do to brawling skill? I play in plat. Not really sure of the potential abuse this would cause. Tho I would guess possible plat farming.
Just seems like a pain in the rear.

>>I would assume you're just getting the generic 'I'm holding a weapons that's 200+ ranks over your skill level' retreat thing.
It happens if you have too many ranks in brawling no matter what weapon you have in your hand. I can go with a weapon I have 0 ranks in and they'll still run

That is not my experience. 225(ish) brawling and I was able to backtrain HB, LT and Halbard starting in goblins, kelpies, eels, young ogres, bloodwolves then moved to vines (where I am currently with the three weapons). Started all weapons from 0-10 ranks and they are at....ohhh 70ish.

True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.
