I just had my first success with aiming for a specific body part. I was incredibly/overwhelming or near that, and I decided it was worth a try:

< You step backward and then slice at a drooling field goblin. A drooling field goblin partially blocks with a target shield. The sword lands an apocalyptic strike (So that's what it felt like when Grazhir shattered!) that slices through the neck and sends the goblin's head flying through the air.
A drooling field goblin collapses to the ground, shuddering and moaning until it ceases all movement.
