I have to agree, not a fan of the first sentence about luxury cars. The rest of it is great though. Since it's listed as a MUD on a MUD website we probably don't have to use up our character count reiterating DR is a MUD either. Maybe mention the room count cause our game world is pretty good sized.

Yeah that's not arrogant, it's confidence in your product. Just go read all the other ads, they are boring and the same.

Here's the deal. The arrogant/confident ad is going to make people click it just to SEE. You can direct it to a landing page that has all the cool things that is DR because that is impossible to fit in 255 characters. I say a landing page because the DR home page is not a good page for people to hit the first time (It should be but that's a different thread), that page is designed for players that are already playing.

Create chatter... positive/negative, regarding the blurb it doesn't matter, we're talking about a MUD, we just want people to TRY the product, if they try it and are into MUDs do you not agree Dragonrealms is the best out there? If you don't agree Dragonrealms is the best one, why aren't you playing a different one? Get em in, Hook em' and call it a day.

I love this thread. My only suggestion is using 1996 (or nearly 20 years, but that's more characters) since a number jumps out and is a fairly relevant selling point. Nothing is more differentiating than being one of the first MUDs.

I think that without a lot more characters spent explaining that it has been actively developed all that time, saying it's been around since 1996 could actually hurt us. How many games from 1996 would you pick up now? (That you've never played before.)

It IS a positive, I know, but I don't necessarily think it will be perceived that way in such a small blurb.

I almost don't like saying the ultimate or penultimate, though. Everyone on there thinks (or will claim) they're the best. It might be worth chopping that entire first sentence and spending the characters elsewhere.

I think its OK to say its the best, its advertising, your supposed to promote your product. Its only bad if its not the best MUD out there, and I feel confident in how DR stacks up versus all of the other MUDs I've played over the years. Be cocky and a little arrogant, if anything it will just cause someone to say "they think they are so great, let me see what the hell this is all about", and actually try the game.

As a consumer, I would be looking for a descriptor that is a bit less colloquial than "ultimate" - it's often used to simply say "we're the best" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcL6DwSufMI) - who wouldn't make that claim.

I liked the "The most sophisticated MUD" idea. Whoever came up with that was right on point!

I would avoid the word "penultimate." It is not a fancy way of saying "ultimate," "best," or "definitive." It simply means next to last.

Something about zombies or pets would be neat, tough to choose what to say when there is so much you can say.

Right. I know it's advertising and we're supposed to say the best (no idea why I put penultimate, since I like to call people on using that word incorrectly all the time), but it's a given that everyone is going to say they're the best, so I think it's a was to use the limited space we have on that and keep it subjective.

Good point. When I was originally writing it, those two things were more separate/verbose so I was initially trying to say how many current GMs there were. I like the idea of saying hundreds of GMs and thousands of players, though.

I struggled with this. I included "rich world of intrigue" in part to cover it without going into detail on roleplay -- which I felt could be off-putting for those who don't know what it is.

"Today" is awkwardly placed.

The development wording sounds like players develop the game, which might not attract people who think they have to contribute something to development as a player.

I don't know if I'd include "hunt for treasure" or "discover hidden lore" as these are not very strongly developed systems (like the crafting, shop, and home systems). Also "adventure with friends" is pretty generic. If I read it I would be thinking, "I can do that in any MUD." Doesn't mean it can't be included, but I definitely wouldn't end on it.

When I made my previous suggestion, I made REAL sure I nixed that law/chaos inference. This is not DnD, and has no basis at all on DnD. (Closer to Rolemaster, really).

I'd really rather not see alignments in game.

It would, however, amuse me to see the outcome of that. From about 8 years of DnD, I can tell you, a lot of DR characters are probably not the alignment their players claim they are.

I don't think law/chaos explicitly implies alignments.

It just means that there are some areas that have laws, and some that don't.

Hrm, definitely weird! It's only 248 on my Word for sure.

I'd suggest either a) remove a word, maybe that will help (could remove "rich" or "intrigue"), or b) changing the ampersands to "and" -- this would still only put us up to 254. Could be it's upset about the special characters. Sometimes forms are weird and throw up the wrong error.

Or you could contact them.
