My point was that Solomon had said that a few things they said would 'never happen' would be happening this year.

Hopefully one of those things is the elimination of lag. Grr.

Solomon said that with the new core system rewrite that was being done, things like new guids would be much more feasable this summer. He then went on to say that he had three good solid new guild proposals under consideration, and that at least two of those three would be slated for development once the tools are in place. Maelona, meanwhile, just stood there and gave him the evil eye the entire time, and made a few (failed) attempts to shut him up <g>

As far as details go, he gave none, save that at least one of the three guild proposals he has in front of him is something they said they'd never do. My guess is either druid or necromancer, since both have been stomped down as "never gonna happen" enough to qualify <chuckles>

Also remember back a few years... in November a GMm stated emphatically no new races. No plans... no talks.. nuh uh...

And 4 or so months later.. voila, Gnomes, Rakash, Prydaens and Kaldar...

So... never take never too too seriously. :)

Thanks for the info, Dash. Very interesting.

Oh, and there was actually more than a little talk about the possibility of new guilds some time ago (back before the new races showed up) with the official sanctioning of some GM's. I believe there is still a board around here somewhere for suggestions regarding new guilds.

My personal favorite that was suggested was a Sailor/Pirate guild that would be Survival Primary and (Lunar) Magic/Weapons secondary. There were some pretty thoughtful discussions on the matter until Treveri stated point blank that new guilds were off the menu for the foreseeable future.

So, the last GM answer was not "never"; it was "not now... maybe some other year". Looks like it might be another year. ; )

I'm wondering if there will be a quild with two primary skill sets and 4 tert. That would be neat.

I have a mild concern with the idea of new guilds. We already have ten that tend to jockey each other for 'turf' like gangs in a bad movie, development which works like a tidal cycle, and generally create havoc for each other.

Where could we fit #11, and what ideas could be on the table that could not be incorporated into an already existant guild?

Those out of the way, I'll wax constructive: If this happens, the path of least resistance I could see is a few more NMUs. I'm imagining a few different ways we could take the 'Fighter' concept and twist it on the head (admitively, I'm constantly bringing myself back around to 'Well, this could just adjunct to the Paladins / Barbarians.')

Lunar secondary makes sense in a greater design standpoint, to balance out the mana types. I'd be extremely interested in reading the history of such a guild, though, since as far as we know most Lunar practioners were wiped off the face of Elanthia (the Moon Mage guild born out of survival necessity rather then anything else).

Nope. I've already begun work on my vampire ninja. Although I think it will be very unfair if we have to start as a vampire from the beginning and I would have to reroll.

Yah that was my main thought, that any new guilds would likly be a NMU, top ideas for are are more of a plain warrior then we have now, with combat manuevers vs dances and roars etc, with no real relation to magic. Other NMU ideas involve a tinkerer/craftsman or perhaps something like a monk (Less likly... but just thinking D&D here). A NMU based Druid would be interesting too.

The idea of Lunar secondary would indeed be interested but with as backlogged as magic is right now I just can't see a new MU guild right now. Also I'd say certainly not Necromancers based on the fact it just doesn't mix with the brand new form of necro and sorc introduced to the game.

I actually agree with this to an extent, particularly with any proposed spellcasting guilds. As it stands, the warrior mage guild seems to be being strangled where growth is concerned because any concievable use for elemental magic that doesn't directly blow things up seems to tread on someone elses turf.

Hell, even long standing spells like earth sense have been gutted at the altar of putting survival skills on a monopolistic turf pedestal due to the half-witted notion that it bypasses the need for perception. Elemental mages would logically use magic that allowed them to fly, climb, swim or even part the waters themselves to allow anyone to walk across a body of water but if any such logical applications were to be proposed the 'survival whiner brigade' would throw the full weight of their apparantly powerful lobby at opposing the idea, probably with the effect of killing it outright if not crippling it beyond usefulness.

I do hope any new guilds (I like the idea of new guilds, by the way) are either non-spellcasting, or have sphere's of influence that doesn't come close to what would be possible via elemental magic ... like the suggested necromancer guild (though I guess clerics could have a beef with that one).

I could see an Alchemist guild.

The concept is already mentioned in the history of DR, and the new substances system would certainly open up a lot of possibilities.

I'd see it as another Lore primary guild, with Survival/Magic secondary.

The only guild I see definately appearing is a Life Magic using magic primary guild. As someone said, either Druid or Necromancer. Necromancer is less likely, in my opinion but I could always be wrong.

I figure that one of the guilds will be some sort of alchemist/creation/tinkerer guild, and that one will be some sort of sailor guild (what with ships coming and all).

As far as new guilds and magic, there are no Life Primary, Lunar Secondary or Tert, Elemental Tert, or Holy Secondary guilds. I think that there's probably room for a magic guild in one of those areas, as long as they're careful to go a new direction. There's also the possibility of one a guild that combines magic types. It's my understanding that both Necromancy and Sorcery are outlawed, so those guilds would have to be "underground" like the Thieves...

Also, if one of the new guilds end up being a Necromancer guild, I hereby declare consent for all Rakash and Prydaen characters on said Necromancers - especially on any Rakash or Prydaens foolish enough to choose those guilds. It's a Western thing.

Rakash and Prydaen have an IC reason - they were driven from their homeland by a Necromancer. Allowing one to exist to even approach the abilities of Lyras would be foolhardy at best. What's yours?

Could be any of a few reasons:

They'll suck all the idiots and losers who only want to cause trouble who frequently hold us back from getting neat stuff.

We won't be the most "undesirable" and "hated" guild.

They'll have some kind of interaction with the Guild, getting us better stuff or more roleplay options.

They could just appeal to the mindset of many of our members.

Or other various reasons that I just can't think of.

If he meant both that comment and the "What if not everyone was good" comment about the same thing, then I would definately think of a necromantic/sorcery guild.

Both Necromancers and Sorcerers have been around, IG. Both styles of magic are outlawed, however.

I must admit that I've yet to see a GMNPC Sorcerer. Hrm.

Because, generally, they get ignored if they aren't. There's a few rare exceptions...but even they were largely ignored. ::shrugs::
