I'm only able to access the boards through the beta version today. Did I miss an announcement or something about the old boards going bye-bye?

<<Hmm I'm having the same problem. Thought it might just be me though. Are you getting that white page with the board error message, and the start afresh option?
Yep, that same thing. I haven't tried to start fresh. I just close out of it and use the Beta boards.

Same here.
I don't mind the new ones, but I'd really like to be able to access them through the game rather than having to go through play.net.
Also, I'd really love it if we had a "mark all as read" option on top of every category so that I didn't have to click open the last post of each thread to get rid of the thread.
How about it?

Ditto all the above, except that I dislike these new cranky boards. Except for the ignore option, I don't see any improvements with the new ones. The old boards were much faster and easier to use, and I guess I'm a minority in this one but I thought they looked better too.
Least I tried the beta version before I cleared my history files and the like, now I know from other posters that it wouldn't have worked.

I'm with you on this as well. I think the old boards look better, and a lot faster to use.

I was having trouble with just getting in the boards at all yesterday, and when on the new boards (wish I like much better and use instead of the old) it was incredibly slow. So if you normally use the old boards and had to use the new ones yesterday, you might think they are slower. It is much better today.

>>Because the system is loading each and every new post in one lump instead of requesting one at a time.
Which is exactly why I always thought they were faster since I only had to wait once for my painfully slow computer to load them rather than having to read a post, wait forever for the next to load...and so on. I personally like the newer boards a whole lot more than the old ones.

There was a 'Show All posts' per topic on the old boards.

New boards. ::grumbles:: We need to start on a default collapse, or at least be able to set the option. I don't mind wasting the bandwidth on a few more kb but for the love of all that is evil and vile I don't want to view 40 posts of people whining about 100th circle or whatever the current day whine is.

We can. I believe you simply click on the 'Options' link, and change the 'Default Message View' from 'Expanded' to 'Collapsed'.
And incidentally, if what happened last time is an indication of what is to come (I'm refering to the revamping of the old-old boards that had their own FE), then once this beta period is over, there won't be any choice but the "new" boards. So we may as well get used to them. Hee.

<<How can it be slower when you can see the posts on one page instead of opening each one?
I always loaded up all new posts from all folders at once, at it was much faster on the old boards for me. For one thing, it seems like these boards don't save the graphics or anything on your hard drive, I seem to have to load up everything fresh (like that play.net forums graphic at the top) each time I open the boards even though I have my browser settings set to save page info for 20 days.
Don't know what exactly causes it, but the old boards loaded up much faster for me, and were easier to navigate.

Heya folks.
Just a couple of things as I read through this thread:
Options is your friend :)
1. For Windows IE 4+/NS 5+ and Mac IE 5+ users only.
When Collapsed, only the Author and Subject of the message is displayed. When Expanded, the entire message is displayed. Clicking on the Author or Subject of the message switches the view for that message.
This should help with a large screed of text on loading. I find my boards load very fast with just the headers.
2. Set up your filters
3. If you scan the post headers and dont want to read any more, above and below the list of messages is a directory tree e.g. All Forums/DragonRealms/Discussions with Dragonrealms Staff and Players.
Click on the Category and mark the folder you no longer want to read as read. This is also where you can ignore a folder.
The mechanics are slightly different in usage but the features are mostly all there.
If you have comments or questions on the above, please dont hesitate to email me at DR-Cecco@play.net

Truth be told, I love the new boards. Even on the old crappy computer, as long as nothing is actively breaking, they load pretty fast in the un-collapsed mode. Plus, I actually find it EASIER to read through threads I want to ignore than harder. With all the posts already open, you can get a first glance at the stuff in the thread that's actually worth reading and stuff you can ignore, instead of just opening them one at a time and hoping they were useful. After about the first day, when I got acclimated, I haven't used the collapsed form at all. And you're right about the blue, even with only about 8-9 posts, my eyes started to hurt when I tried it.

I did a little bit of mucking about and you can ignore the windows colours and choose your own for certain bits (Tools/Internet Options/General/Fonts) and then you can make windows ignore the colours on the web page, and refer back to your preferred colours ((Tools/Internet Options/General/accessibility). But I lost all the lines dividing up the table ::grin:: but it did change the colour of the post subject text. It looked ick to me. I havent played with Stylesheets. However, that may be an option you guys can play around with.
