Greetings.
I've just updated one of our merchant systems. These changes apply to most shops where the inventory is displayed on a table/counter/etc and the 'helpful clerk' would...be helpful. It does NOT apply to catalog shops, home shops and a few others.
The bulk of these changes will be invisible to you all in day-to-day shopping initially. However, a number of new tools were added to allow GMs to customize shops in the future. Some of these mechanics will be seen at the festival -- customized messaging, additional ways of limiting stock, adjusting prices, gift wrapping, etc. Note that these are up to the shop maker to set up / enable, so if one merchant has a feature and another doesn't, it's intentional.
One change that WILL be visible is the addition of citizenship discounts to these types of merchants. They generally don't apply in fest areas, only normal areas available 24/7 in the 5 provinces. There's no messaging indicating a discount, but if prices suddenly seem to change from what you're used to or what your friends see, this is likely the source.
The SHOP verb may report prices that differ from what the merchant charges. At this time, SHOP doesn't factor discounts, but we'll look into that when we can.
These updates have been live in Plat and TF for several days without any trouble, so I don't anticipate problems with Prime's release. Carry on shopping as usual!

Home Updates - Guests and MOVE on 10/29/2010 02:36 PM CDT
Greetings.
I've just released a pair of home updates to Prime and TF. Plat has had them for a few days without incident.
1) The designated guest for a home can now GET/PUT items on furniture. Home owners, be sure you trust your guests.
2) You can now MOVE (HOME) to unlock, open and go into it in one command. This only works on the exterior to get into the home. No such mechanic has been made for the interior to get out at this time.
If you have any problems, please respond in the Estate Holders of Elanthia category.

My name is Victoria and I'm Veronica Langhart's daughter, she played Veralika (and many alts) in DragonRealms for about a decade. She passed away in September and I've been told her DR friends wanted to reach me and in turn I wanted to find a way to contact them so they could know I set up a donation fund in my mom's honor (through a charity that was special to her). I don't have a website set up for this, (I'm just not that tech-savvy), but if anyone wants to email me about donation information (the charity is "Wings for Hope") or just further info on Mom, they are welcome to. |
Mom loved DR and since her passing I've discovered it allowed her to connect with an unimaginable amount of people. |
My email address is: artsyvictoria@gmail.com |

Enviro Update - Abandoned Cemetary (Wir Dinego) on 12/20/2010 10:03 PM CST
This area has had its environment settings tweaked to be a little more logical.
This effects Ranger and Thief bonuses in this area.
The Ranger should find it quite a bit more amiable, though not perfect.
The Thief should notice a very slight increase, or possibly not notice a change.

If you'd stop finding bugs I could code Companions 2.0.

Manipulation Updates on 03/01/2011 01:32 AM CST
Tonight I'll be releasing some updates to manipulate ability. This isn't the rewrite -- I just wanted to get the system into a more usable state for now, so I made some small changes that will hopefully make it usable until I can really turn my attentions to it. Among the changes:
1. Manipulate now teaches empathy better. It's nowhere near healing, but it should teach better than perceive health, as a rule. However, since manipulate is a combat ability, this means that the Empath's empathy must be challenged by the creature they are manipulating in order to learn.
2. The number of creatures an Empath can manipulate at once is now limited to two. This was a compromise for me to make it teach better. I wanted it to balance fairly well at level, so I had to cap the number of creatures you can manipulate.
3. Empaths can now stop manipulating a creature they have manipulated. You can choose to stop all manipulations (MANIPULATE STOP ALL or MANIPULATE STOP EVERYTHING) or you can stop manipulating a specific creature. (MANIPULATE STOP THIRD LEUCRO)
4. If the creature and the Empath are not in the same room, the manipulate link breaks. Fairly straightforward.
5. Empaths can no longer manipulate constructs. Manipulation is an application of empathy, and requires a life essence to work. Constructs do not have life essences, so manipulation does not work on them. It never should have worked at all, but manipulation was not updated when constructs were initially released.
6. The concentration cost has changed. There is now a small initial concentration hit for manipulating something. Then, a certain amount of your concentration is 'allocated' toward manipulating that creature, for manipulation purposes only. This means that the concentration stays in your pool, but in order to manipulate, you must have the concentration to allocate toward manipulating the creature in question. Clear as mud? Excellent!
7. Help messaging is now hopefully more helpful and reflects the stop changes.
I think that's everything. Please respond via the link below with questions/feedback/comments.

Update to (Some) Atmospheric Items on 03/09/2011 11:50 PM CST
Atmospheric items using the EZAtmo system have been updated to route messages to the atmospherics window for StormFront users. You will still see your own messages, but others' will be routed to your atmospheric window if it's open.
Let me stress that this update ONLY applies to items from the ezatmo system. There are a lot of these items out there, but they've generally been from auctions, festivals or from Premium players' custom LTB options. Things like snake charms, forehead jewelry and other atmospheric items will get looked at as time allows in the future for similar updates -- please don't bug them.
This is live in Prime and Plat at the moment. Provided nothing explodes, TF will see it in a day or two.

3 additional sets of items have been updated to follow similar standards in regards to routing to the atmospherics window.
1) Forehead jewelry (glacier emeralds, dragon blood rubies, etc)
2) Snake charms (the original variety, not the newer ones)
3) Lizard charms
More to come as time allows. These are live in Prime and Plat for the moment.

Defense Experience Updates on 03/13/2011 05:24 AM CDT
Heyo!
A modification to how experience is distributed to Evasion, Parry, and Shield is now live in Prime and Platinum. Please read the following carefully:
Experience will now be award to all skills you are stanced to use, regardless of whether or not that skill is actually contested. For this to occur, you must be stanced to use the skill, and you must be able to use the skill -- you will not learn shield or parry if you do not have a shield or parry item in a usable position.
This is a short-term fix only to address a long-standing issue where one defense being successful prevents or severely impacts the learning in others, requiring players to deliberately stance down or juggle stances in dangerous ways.
Please understand that without a full rewrite (which is in progress), there is only so much that can be done in this regard with our current combat system. These new tweaks will help spread the experience gain, but skills that are not actively contested (you evaded the entire attack, so shield and parry were not contested, for example) will generally not receive as much experience as they would have if they had been contested. It may still be in your better interest to swap stances around a little, but the need to stance down dramatically (especially in evasion) should not be as common or necessary.

New Release and an Update on 05/30/2011 10:17 PM CDT
Greetings.
Following tonight's Estate Holder meeting, I've made two releases. One is an update and one is a new release.
Firstly, the Ratha hedgewizard has been pummeled with the nerfbat. The max duration for being a toad has been cut in half, and after being turned into a toad, you are protected from being re-toaded for up to 2 hours. Lastly, while you are a toad, movement is no longer random. You still hop around, but now you can hop to help without the frustration of random movement.
The second release is the new HOME REMOVE tool. This allows the home owner to remove pieces of furniture from the home completely. In the case of critical pieces (door, floor, wall, etc), a standard version will be put in the place of the old one moved out. You can find more info in HOME HELP 8.
If you encounter any problems with either of these, please let us know.
These have been in Plat since late last week and are now in Prime and TF.

Calendar Updates on 06/02/2011 06:44 PM CDT
1) The Calendars are now much bigger to help you see what the events are!
2) The button on the Forums Home Page that links to the new Calendar System "Main Feed" Calendar now color codes all items for a given game to be the same color/shade. All GemStone IV items are blue, all DragonRealms items are green, all AOH items are yellow/brown, and all MO items are purple. We may still tweak the various colors a bit more to help differentiate them better, but you should now be better able to tell what events are going on in what version of the world with a quick glance.
3) The button on each games' Home Page that links to the new Calendar System will now ONLY show items for that particular game.
Still to come:
1) Members of Player-Run groups, Mentors, Houses, Organizations, etc. will be able to appoint/assign at least one player who will be able to post items to a special calendar devoted to player-organized events. The GM in charge of these groups will be in touch with your leadership shortly to get the information we need to provide access.
2) Potentially some other tweaks, adjustments, and new features later on down the road.
