I know that Simu 'frowns' on buying and selling chars, but I was wondering if you buy or are given a char and they have a warning/lo etc. is there anyway to get that purged? I mean it's the soul that made the char get the warning/LO so why should the new soul be punished?
I have a clean record (ok 2 warnings when I first started 3 years ago for language because I didn't know any better, second one I thought I was in a 'safe room'), I have been given 4 chars over the years and luckily all 4 were 'clean' too. I am concerned that if someone gives me a char and it turns out they have a 'record' that it might hurt my chances when I put in a GH or GM app.
Re: Question on 07/09/2002 03:30 PM CDT
I don't believe so, nor do I think there should be. If there was some way to clear warnings from an account, someone would 'sell' their character to a friend for like, $20, and then buy the character back after their friend cleared the warnings away, and go rack up a whole dump-truck load of warnings before doing it again.
Re: Question on 07/10/2002 09:38 AM CDT
There are other ways, yes I know if one puts the warning on the acct per your scenario they could sell the char, close said acct then open new one etc. But Simu has ways of linking accts (you get a perm lo all your accts are lo) can't the warning be attached to the 'soul' some how in a similar manner? Just wool gathering. I have actually turned down the offer of a char because I knew he had warnings and LO (though skill wise he was a very good char).
Questions for Applications on 05/23/2003 05:22 PM CDT
A few questions:
1. When you receive an updated application, do you chunk the old one or file it? IE Do you do application comparisons to see what has changed?
I basically am asking to know if I need to repeat previously said things.
2. Are there different contacts/supervisors for the CE Team versus the Development one specifically for hiring? (I know the Heads are different.) Or does hiring of all Simu DR staff (including Game hosts) fall under one person's domain?
3. If someone persistently bombards you with an application every month to two months, do you dislike them more or are you more likely to remember them?
4. How often are the Applications looked at? I know we get an auto-response. However, does the application get sent directly to the contact person? Do they look at them immediately or wait until there is a place that needs to be filled?
Thanks,
The Curious

Hello everyone!
I think I might be able to shed some light on a few of these questions (at least from the perspective of the hiring of DR GameHosts) and even give a few tips.
1. Yes, we do keep your old apps. And yes, we do compare them to the last one. This can be both good and bad. For example, if you send us an app in May that says "I have worked as a Customer Service Rep at the Honky Tonk Bar & Grill for 6 months now" and then in June we get another app saying "...for 4 years now"...trust me, that is enough to make us scratch our heads and go huh? Do what? Have I been asleep for 3-1/2 years? And why the heck didn't somebody at least have the courtesy to wake me up?
On the other hand, if you send an app in May that looks pretty good, but then you send us an app in June with the comment added that you recently became a Mentor, ran a player event in which you jumped through a hoop of fire and had a huge turn-out of a crowd and only burned the tip of your nose (so everyone had a blast), or submitted an article about those unruly nightstalkers that was published in the Hentarean...well, chances are real good we are gonna wanna take a closer look ;)
Point being, always be aware of any inconsistencies in your apps if you are going to submit them regularly. And, my suggestion is that you re-apply every 3 months or so if you have not heard from us and are still interested. Sooner is also okay if you have something substantial to add that you would like us to know.
2. Never, ever leave any question on an application blank. This can quickly turn an otherwise possible app into one that we file on a back burner to be reviewed later. A blank question leaves a question in our minds also ;)
3. Remember that your app is, for all intents and purposes, your Job Resume. Treat it as such. How you present yourself on your app tells us heaps about how serious you are about wanting the job and what we can likely expect from you if hired. Pay careful attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation. And for pete's sake, SELL YOURSELF. There are plenty of places to add comments. Tell us about that degree you have in Interior Design or that Pottery class you teach on Tuesday nights, or even how you raise ferrets. Give us a chance to learn a bit about YOU...not your character (we can get that info easily ;), but YOU. In other words, hit us with something that will make us want to learn MORE and earn you an interview <g>.
4. If you own more than one account (in ANY Simu product), please list them all. Any that you have a link to in any way. Chances are we are going to find out anyway when we do your background check, so there is not much point in not disclosing them. This can only hurt you and again leave us questioning what else might not have been divulged.
5. How long have you played DR? Ughhh..another sticking point. Please don't say you have played for 4 years, but then only list one account that you just opened 2 months ago. If you have truly played for that long and have that wealth of experience to show us, tell us so....tell us the name of the account you played under for that 4 years (even if you left for a year and that account is closed now).
6. Policy violations. Might as well fess up here folks. As you all likely already know, we already have this info anyway. What we want to see is your honesty here. If you are honest, chances are very good that the nasty lil AFK scripting warning you got 3 years ago will not be repeated. That you have learned your lesson so to speak ;) While warnings do carry less weight as they age, they never leave your account (not just the character, the ENTIRE account). Chances are, if you are granted an interview, we are going to ask you to explain any major infractions, even if they were 3 years ago. Again, if you do not list these and then we find them, there is a good chance your app will not be reviewed any further.
7. Specific ONLY to GameHost apps. As to the question of "When would you prefer to cover shifts?" The response of "hours vary, can't commit" should be a clear indication to you that perhaps you should wait to apply when you have a more regular RL schedule. GameHosts are required to put in a MINIMUM of 6 hours per week onduty. This time is completed in the form of 3 shifts per week (2 hours each) and is routinely scheduled. I do not allow GameHosts to work Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday of one week and then Monday, Wednesday, & Sunday of the next (even if your nasty ole boss won't let you stock those stupid shelves 4 predetermined days a week year-round). In order to provide good customer service, we must have GameHosts who can provide consistent coverage, so being able to commit to a routine and regular schedule of shifts is a firm requirement.
8. Yes, there are separate teams for hiring in Development and CE...thus the two separate folders here. However, we work together as one BIG team here, so we do have input and help to train each other's team members.
9. Speaking ONLY to GameHost apps, I do the initial reviews of each one as they are received. The ones I find possibly promising are forwarded to the full CE Host Hiring Team (consisting of myself, GM Tessima, and SGM Riel) for further input and a determination of whether we wish to request an interview or not. Again, we work as a fully integrated team. At times, one of these two ladies may come to me with an app they wish us all to take a closer look at. We also keep these apps on file in case a position does become available at a later date that we might want to interview a particular applicant for.
Hope this helps folks! Have a nice day!

Re: Questions for Applications on 05/28/2003 04:46 PM CDT
Can we send "after thoughts" important notes to the drapps address?
For instance, after I submitted my application through the web, I noticed in the auto-response that the last part of the application where you speak about yourself had become a jumbled mess despite trying to format it so that it was clearly readable. Thus, I cut and pasted that part along with my name and account and re-sent it to Drapps.
There are many things that I would also like to add as afterthoughts (I'm horrible with Applications - they make me nervous). I know that if I were given an interview I would have a chance to state them there. However, since one does not always know if they are going to be offered that chance, can one send additional notes to the Drapps address to be tacked on to their application? Or does that just make things worse?

Hi there!
If you would like to make additions to your staff application, your very best course is to submit a new one. That way all your info is kept in one place and none of the added pieces risk getting lost.
Hope that helps!

Can you offer suggestions for keeping pages of information from looking like a jumbled mess?
I tried cutting and pasting from Notepad, but as I stated before, it doesn't help.

I'm not certain she means the same as I, however when I submitted mine the space for telling about yourself, even if typed in paragraphs, would come out as one long paragraph.
I have to say this always bugged me after spending the time to make sure it looked neat and well thought out, to have it turn into a jumbled mess. No matter how good what I say may be (or not be), when "How my trip to Aunt Helga's changed my life" is squished into "My Nobel Peace Prize" section, it doesn't appear well thought out.
I know this is just the form and how it spits it out in the end, but it still drives me crazy.

<<What I do is type it on the form provided and copy paste it elsewhere to check for spelling etc and go over it, then I copy paste it back (if anything is changed). So far that seems to work well.
I do something similiar. I type the entire thing in notepad, copy and paste it to Word for spelling, etc. BUT, I do not copy and paste it back into notepad. I just manually change things in order to avoid funky characters that MS Word likes to add.
However, when I cut and paste the changed version into the web application, after it is sent, it comes back all jumbled.
C'est la vie I guess.

I just type it in the application on the site then copy/paste it to check spelling (I use my email compose spell checker for that), plus reread it for any other errors then right back to the application. I then copy/paste the whole thing to wordpad. That way it is already in the format that the application uses.
