Yep that's right a beg post whose sole purpose is to make me feel better.
Got last names ready? I'm getting married in less than two weeks and neither of us have a last name, kinda makes that part of the package a little useless eh? :(
Ah well, keep up the good work and to whoever has names on their plate I wish you insight, lots of caffeine, and a speedy QC turnaround!

i think your talking about sharing last names when your married? currently if both partners in the couple get married, they both retain their last name. dont they?

he is referring to last names in general.
-New characters out of the manager get no last name.
-If two characters get bonded by simply kissing the clerics roses, there is no change of names.
-If you purchase a simu wedding package, one option is to allow the change of one spouses last name to be the same as the other, already in place.
It is just problematic in his particular example for two no-last-names to marry, as they have no last name to share. So he is asking about the supposed return of last names as part of the 'improvements' allowable by DRII.

<<There's GMs wandering around without last names too. That one always amused me.
Just wanted to say, "HAH!"
And to nudge the GMs to implement a last-name system... I'm sick of seeing people around me without last names (I have one... just barely made my character in time, but I have one). Also, can you change everyone's last name that isn't capitalized? That drives me nuts!
k, thx

*helps him nudge and causes it to turn into a gentle push* Oops... uhm.. well, what he said. :D

Hah... drives me nuts too. But, I'd really, really, really just like to have the ability to have last names first. Capitalization second.
Did I mention please? pretty please? with sugar on top? *bats her eyelashes*

If I remember my history right, in the middle ages alot of people did not have last names. Though they did have things added to their names if there were alot of other people with the same name. So, you have John Little, otherwise known as Little John. People also had trades added to their name. So you might have John Cartwright and John Smith in the same village. Sometimes, people were differentiated by their ancestory or parents. So you might have John Scott and John Johnson also in that same village (where all the parents seemed fixated on the name John, possibly because it was the only name their parish priest knew how to spell?)
People might also have something designating their clan instead of a last name.
Lords sometimes were called by their holdings and sometimes by what we consider last names and sometimes by descriptors, like Longshanks or Campbell. These sometimes got passed down in common usage to all of that family line.
Point? Well it was a terrible annachronism to have last names like we had in the realms and it locked up names.
However, it would be nice if we could have something done to the post titles that would allow us to have in game families or clans that are registered where we could all use that family name as a post title. I would like us to be able to store 5 post titles, one for our family or clan (f applicable), one for an order (if applicable), one for citizenship (if applicable), one for military membership (if applicable) and one relating to trade (such as tanner, fletcher--might need more slots I guess because we have the ability to prusue more than one trade)
I just don't think it should be part of the Character Maker up front.

Gah, what're you trying to do! We already have that problem, the point isn't to give them a justification why they don't have to give us last names back.
I sure hope the rest of that schpiel was intended to support the last names idea, rather than hinder it.
>>I just don't think it should be part of the Character Maker up front.
Though at first glance, I'd re-assert my comment above beginning with "Gah,..." However, given my character's already rolled up.. guess this particular request wouldn't give me a problem. However, not everyone needs to be registered into another family, and if someone already knows the last name they want, why not let them create it right off the bat?
I just would like us to get last names sooner, rather than later. So... I'm not gonna be picky and quibble on what they did in the middle ages... since, this is a world loosely based on that time, but not strictly adhering to it. Sure, it would be nice to have all those options, and I'm sure if they gave us last names, you could come up with a name like Cobbler, or Horsewhisperer, or whatever it is you feel your profession is, and with the promise of having other people share last names, you could even do groups and whatnot.. But, as for little ol' moi... I just want ~a~ last name, whether it follows all those rules or not.

^^^^^^^Now that's what I call a woman who wants a last name. I'm also looking forward to getting last names, and there's plenty of others who are waiting (quite hopelessly it seems) to get last names, but haven't made it to this folder yet. I'd really appreciate ~at least~ an update, a notice to let us know that you all are either still working on it, or just screwing with us(whichever it is). But it really would be nice to pop on one day and be able to choose a last name for my character. hint hint
