Does anyone know a source for sound files I can use with Avalon front end? I have heard it can use Storm front sound files too. Anyone have any advice about getting scripts to work with Avalon or know a site that gives set up information about Avalon? I have a mac with the newest. Avalon appears to be the only front end that works with it.
Thanks

full disclosure: I'm not a MAC user so this might be no help at all

This might help with sound:

Do you use Lich with Avalon for scripting? I think you could get Lich pull sound files within scripting.

Have you taken a look at outlander (a new open source MAC FE being developed by the player of Saracus)? I don't 'think' there are sound strings available yet but I would expect them at some point.

That probably wasn't much help. If someone who's actually a MAC user can't get you on the right track here try posting your question in the Gemstone IV forums. My sense is they have more MAC users from how technical their MAC threads are. This is the folder you want if you try asking there:

These are wav files, so they can be used with any front-end that supports them.

Regarding sounds, you can use any .wav file you have in the appropriate folder: ~/Documents/Simutronics/Sounds. Thus it's just a matter of finding .wav files you like. I use precious few so I can't be of much help here.

Assuming you have Yasse (which you should get): https://elanthipedia.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Avalon_scripts
Also check out the Yasse manual (yasse manual.txt), which you should have downloaded as part of the bundle with Yasse.

As others have mentioned, there's also Outlander. Although it's at an earlier development stage, it shows promise because there is at least one person actively working on it. Plus it connects to the XML stream, meaning you get real time mana/health bars. I also used Warlock a long time ago (but found it too buggy).
Warlock: https://sourceforge.net/projects/warlock/
>>Do you use Lich with Avalon for scripting?
Wow. Does Lich work with Avalon? I always assumed it was SF/Genie only. If not, I might have to take a look.

I tried to get Lich working a few months back with Avalon and wasn't able to get it to go. I didn't try TOO hard, but I seemed to have issues getting a compatible version of Ruby installed.

I think this is step by step instructions for it...

I managed to get it working using those instructions. Then something happened. Now it is broken and no one I have asked seems to know to fix it. Overall I would say that lich is pretty finicky and might require some programming experience to keep running.

Thank you for all of the great resources for sound files. I downloaded a couple hundred and loaded them into the sound folder of Avalon and they dont even show up to link strings in the game to. My guess is i am a worse noob than I thought or I should give Outlander a look. As you say it may be new but at least someone is working on it. i will keep monitoring just in case anyone comes up with more on avalon or outlander. Thank so much guys.

I'm not sure what you mean. Just in case, here are the steps:
Avalon -> Preferences -> Highlights, Sounds tab
Enter the string you want into the "Match" box, and the name of the sound file in the "Play Sound" box. Click ADD, then OK. Looks like you can use .wav, .aiff, and .snd.

None of the .wave sound files are visible anywhere in the Avalon preference windows. I put the sound files in Ducuments> Simutronics > Sounds (folder)
When you in Avalon preferences in game you can see: Avalon > Preferences > Highlights > Sounds (but there are no sound files visible under sounds to connect highlighted strings to.)

Thanks for all of the great sources of sound files. I decided to bookcamp install windows 7 on my mac so I have Stormfront on my mac running now and I am in the game. Those sound files are coming in handy. I am going to see how it goes with Stormfront but I may eventually get Genie because of the great mapping system. Thanks again guys!
