As to the whole 13 thing, parts of that go back thousands of years. The Egyptians had 13 stages of life, the 13th being the afterlife. There is the issue with the last supper, and there is also the killing of Balder at a dinner of 13 signaling the beginning of Ragnarok. The origination of Friday the 13th seems to go back to the move by King Philip IV and Pope Clement V against the Knights Templar which happened on October 13, 1307.

So, what does "Already Terminated" mean? That means someone who has been removed either snuck back in on a new account, or bought one (in this case more than one). As I explained previously, there is a hit list, but most of the time, people who get caught do because they showed up and made new problems. The second I find out who they are, that's pretty much the end of that, and is noted here with the description of Already Terminated.

Has there ever been a time in the past year for your blotters where there has been more PvP warnings for that week than scripting warnings?

>>Has there ever been a time in the past year for your blotters where there has been more PvP warnings for that week than scripting warnings?

I would guess not. People are more willing to AFK script because it's easy to see the "logic" behind getting away with it (there ARE a ton of rooms that PCs literally never go into on a usual basis, and lots of players are actually okay with it so long as it doesn't interfere with their own business). With PVP, you are by necessity interacting with at least one person, probably two, and sometimes a lot more than that when policy-breakers (those who could care less about the rules)/policy-players (those who understand exactly what they can do within the rules) step in to help out.

>>Remember a while back when I said "slow week?" Forget that.

Is this generally more of the same-people-doing-the-same-stuff (the usual suspects, moreso than the standard creep of players learning their lesson), or is this a continuation of your school's-in trend you mentioned earlier?

I went back and looked at the numbers from the end of September which was also a busy week. Some of this is very much "usual suspects" or in this case unusual suspects who happened to show up this week, some of this is general "I won't get caught," and some of it is exactly that "school's in" stuff. My basis for that is, we're about to hit mid-terms (or just have) and so there will be a little swing of people who are going to be working on that more than playing here.

More predictions? An upswing at Thansgiving for two reasons. Reason one, schools and offices have time off. Reason two, dinner will cause people to fall asleep at their keyboards. Why might there not be one? Because the usual suspects (from this week) will still be out.

And a last comment? There were 32 warnings under the scripting rules this week. As any cop will tell you, crime is a Darwinian business. All you have to do to get away with it is not make any mistakes, at all. That might work if people only did one job, and knew what all the possible mistakes might be, but they don't, they keep going back to the well until they get nailed. If you're scripting, you may not get caught the first time, or the second, or the third, but at some point, you will.

So if I understand this correctly, someone who had been previously removed from the game (presumably for good reason) spent money to return to the game that they had been banned from, and then subsequently the accounts (three, right?) that they now owned were terminated, meaning that those characters purchased would forever be removed from playable status, and all of the money spent by said offender was wasted?

Pardon me while I laugh off parts of my anatomy that would get my post pulled if specified.

I really think DR should allow these types to pay a prime subscription for TF only. I mean, the whole concept behind TF is that you can do anything you want.. so, why not make some more money off the locked out/banned/whatever?

I was wondering if we could be privy to the % of people that have some form of scripting warning on thier accounts, this is really shapping up to seem like a huge number of people are scripting. Not trying to start a conflict just wondering.

Well, in under two months there have been 161 scripting warnings issued. So take from that what you will. By this time next year there will be almost 1000 scripting warnings issued if things keep going the way they are. I haven't seen 1000 people in game at once for a LONG time.

Yes, there have been 161 in two months. However, it's been stated before that a lot of times, it's the same people getting the warnings. So how many unique accounts are getting scripting violations? Who knows. As for 1000 characters receiving violations over a year, how many unique characters do you suppose log into the game over the course of a year? I bet it's much much more than 1000. :-D

Well first off, it's not by character it's by account. If you get a warning on your barbarian, and then the next day on your moonie, and then the third day on your warmie...those 3 warnings all count towards you.

But also consider, even though they've only been posting for 2 months they've been issuing just this many warnings for 10 years now.

Okay, but certainly not all in the same month or even small set of months, otherwise they would have their characters deleted. If it's the same people doing it over and over again they would have to be doing it months (or years) apart.

Some people also will train up new characters for people and have an option where they will afk script to train them up faster but with the risk of being caught, this is probably padding numbers.

True. Of course, it would be a lot easier to see how big of an epidemic AFK scripting is if there wasn't for the overprotective secrecy of the number of active accounts. For some reason it feels like Simu is trying to protect this number like it was a nuclear launch code. Every time someone mentions it, there's Bubba popping out of the woodwork with a "You have no idea how many active accounts we have so you really can't make any judgements on that."

What's so terrible about just saying, "We have 9,850 active accounts right now"?

Quite frankly...

What was so terrible about not knowing all the lockout and warning data points in the first place?

It's just come to me that this thread is a fairly good example of the damned-if-you-do damned-if-you-don't situation that the GMs are in.

We, the players, ask for information on just about every aspect of the game. If we (generic) don't get it, we (generic) keep bugging and pestering them until we (generic) get flat out told why until they feel like Homer Simpson taking Bart and Lisa on a road trip under the constant chant of "Can we know yet? Can we know yet? Can we know yet? Can we talk about consent yet? Can we know yet? Can we know yet? Is it out yet? Can we know yet? Can we know yet? Can you tell us yet? Can we know yet?"

So they tell us what little they can and, true to form, we (generic) start the chant of "When can we know more? What else can you tell us? Does it work like this? Does it work like that? When will you do this to it? Wanna hear my idea? Is this supposed to do this or that? What else can you tell us? Is there more?"

Take Teeklin's (specific) question for example: What's so terrible about just saying, "We have 9,850 active accounts right now"?

Can we say revenue stream? In a privately held corporation, total revenue is considered to be the equivalent of an industrial secret, on the order of the serious security guarding the source code of HeroBlade. Why? Can we say buyout? What would Blizzard or Funcom or CCP Games give to have what could possibly be the next-gen worldbuilder tucked in their pocket protectors? Well, if they have access to any hint of the revenue stream, they can make an offer that can equal or beat the next 10 years projected revenue through a relatively simple extrapolation process using the best-case examples.

And given the manure that was thrown in David Whatley's general direction after the last subscription rate increase, do you (generic) really expect him to resist that high of an offer if he really did run true to form with all those horrid accusations and outright fear-based fabrications that were thrown his way barely two years ago?

Now, admittedly, this is probably an ultimate worst-case scenario of what could happen if they revealed the total subscriptions on any one game. But that is why they have these little annoyances called (coughcough) non-disclosure agreements (/coughcough) in the first place: prevent the worst-case from becoming possibility.

Still want to ask that question? And will you be shocked when the answer comes back "NDA"?

Teeklin's point is a valid one, though interesting to me for different reasons.

In six months, with the numbers we have been given so far continuing along their current trends (and I do believe the data sample so far along with comments from GMs is large enough to get a general feel for it) there will be enough warnings issued to cover the average population of Prime during peak hours. That the vast majority of these warnings, as we can plainly see, pertain to AFK scripting.

Instead of simply gawking in awe of this fact, I am personally questioning why so many people feel they must AFK script.

I do not feel it is simply a matter of wanting to "cheat" to get ahead. I think that's too simple and it's not at all congruent with the reasons many scripters have given me.

But then... this is getting purely into the area of speculation on my part without any past data to support it. Speculation of any kind, I gather, is not welcome on these boards. C'est la vie.

>> In a privately held corporation, total revenue is considered to be the equivalent of an industrial secret, on the order of the serious security guarding the source code of HeroBlade.

If Simu's annual gross is a secret, it's not a very well kept one. You know my screen name if you have questions. ;)

I seem to recall stating at the start of this folder that it would create more problems than it solves due to desire of players to work out the numbers. I said they would want more and more data and would become fustrated when that data was not provided. There just isn't any point to releasing partial information. This type of information is, or should be, "need to know only".

Ever been in a classroom with a large student population? As a student, have you done something or seen something that would have gotten you in trouble had the teacher noticed? Same thing with AFK scripting. It's not so much that you're forced to, just that you figure you can get away with it enough to make it worthwhile.

This sad symphony of life can be applied to every aspect of the game, whether it be items, scripting, pvp, or bug/mech abuse.
