Doesn't appear to be working. Cast group does, cast (no mods) defaults to group

Looks like cast area is available now, but is this supposed to happen:
You gesture.
You try to wrap your spell pattern around everybody around you, but fail to do so.
You contribute your harnessed streams to increase the pattern's potential.
You falter for a moment as your extra courage slips away.
You feel your courage bolstered by your faith and determination.
Maybe I need a feat? Or could it be it's contesting stats on a beneficial spell?

Picked up the feat and just tested with Sams and it didn't work, but I'm no longer receiving the failure message.
