Spellbooks should be working again, with some new features. The Scrolls leaf may or may not work anymore though. Here's a sample of what a spellbook shows you on the Fire Shards spell.
*~ Notes on the Fire Shards spell ~*
The Fire Shard spell conjures a fist-sized shard of elemental fire and hurls it at its target. The intensity of the damage varies with the amount of power invested in the spell. With enough skill and power, multiple shards will be produced.
This is a targeted spell, which must be TARGETed at a specific opponent. It can be cast on other adventurers and hostile creatures. It requires a minimum of one mana streams, and can expand to a maximum of one hundred mana streams woven into it.
To begin to be able to cast this spell, you will need to reach the rank of a lowly novice. By the time you have mastered this spell, you will be ranked as a professional in your abilties as a caster. It requires the Targeted Magic skill to cast effectively. This spell is available for any guild member to learn.
This spell has no prerequisites. It will also cost one spell slot.

Just as an aside, those scrolls might not survive when 3.0 rolls in. I'm pretty sure I had a MM teleological scroll or two explode when 3.0 hit Plat.

IIRC, there's an intention to make scrolls more commonplace in 3.0. Not sure if it's scroll drops overall or just specific scroll types.

Re: Spellbooks - found a bug. on 11/26/2012 03:09 AM CST
This is an awesome update! I love the notes on the skill range, very helpful.
And now, the bug:
In the notes on the Abandoned Heart spell...
"To begin to be able to cast this spell, you will need to reach the rank of an expert. By the time you have mastered this spell, you will be ranked as a guru in your abilties as a caster. It requires the Debilitation and heart skills to cast effectively."
I believe it should say "Targeted Magic" instead of "heart" in the skills needed sentence.

Found more spellbook oddities...
Misdirection - says it "requires the Augmentation and skills to cast effectively." (double-space before "skills") The spell lists posted on sebeni.us show it as just Debilitation.
Demrris' Resolve - "Before you can learn this spell, you must know Demrris' Resolve." I doubt it is its own pre-req.
Eillie's Cry - "It requires the Utility and cry skills to cast effectively." Spell list shows it should be Utility and Augmentation. Also... this enchante has always been called "Eillie's Cry", but the new implementation says "Ellie's Cry". Intentional change, or a recurring typo?
Desert's Maelstrom - "It requires the Debilitation and maelstrom skills to cast effectively." Should say Debilitation and Augmentation. This one also has a slight shift in the name... previously was Desert's Maelstrom, now it's just Desert Maelstrom?

Another though previously suspected bug is that the scroll leafs are in fact broken. The spells dont poof and in fact you still get the text from the scroll that you would have seen when read, but it will also give errors like:
-When turning to the page a spell is on it gives this
You turn to page 1 in the chapter entitled "Scrolls" within your velvet-bound spellbook.
That doesn't seem to do much.
-When reading the pages you no longer get the option to INVOKE or MEMORIZE. Instead after the spell description you get "There is nothing there to read." or "You cant do that."
The you cant do that message appears on spells that are no longer IG such as Darkness, I get the there is nothing to read message off of spells like Energy Manacles. I have scrolls of the Teleological Sorceries as well and they dont give any odd messages but not INVOKE/MEMORIZE options.

ya, i had a whole bunch of sever thread and tangled fate scrolls that i had saved up to use, but they all poofed when plat went 3.0. :-(, along with energy manacales, darkness, and shadow web. :-(.
so I'll have to start hunting critters that drop scrolls and such again.

Yeah Ive made peace with my scrolls being gone even though that makes me really bummed. Im now more hoping that the scroll leaf of spellbooks can still be fixed so I can load it with new scrolls once 3.0 hits Prime.

I'm not certain of the relationship between spellbooks and the bardicly-themed songbooks (I've never had a spellbook on any character), but my songbook isn't working as it seems the spellbooks now are in test.

I figured it might be tied to the fact that typing SPELL says I currently know no spells (since all spells are open for testing and all that), but I was curious since people are currently able to read from spellbooks and all that, but I don't have one for comparison.

They definitely can be fixed (and in fact should work just fine with new spells). They just don't have logic to handle the expired scrolls.

Oh, yeah, there's probably a whole bunch of bard-specific logic in there. I'll look at that when I tackle scroll leaves.

Is there any way to make it so they erase out of the leaf when you turn to that chapter if they no longer work? I havent tried invoking them yet to see if they vanish, but it would be nice if when I opened it at the conversion to 3.0 that the spells that wont work would vanish so I knew what was still viable and what was not.

they crumble if you try to invoke or study them, and the page becomes reusable.

>>The problem with that is , there are a lot of older players with old "rare" spells in their books that would be none too happy. Maybe a way to remove the page by choice?
Those spells won't ever be usable again anyway... It doesn't display the correct information when they READ the page anyway, and it causes problems in the backend when they try. The wiping wouldn't happen unless they tried to READ the page, so they can keep it in there for nostalgia as long as they don't page through and read it.
