I haven't found a self activating magical device that's actually magical anymore. How does a NMU train arcana in 3.0?

I believe you're horribly incorrect.
I haven't seen a GM say 'Ok, as part of 3.0, we're going to deliberately delete all these NMU MDs so you guys are screwed, thanks.' They probably haven't fixed the self activators, since no one's brought it up yet.
Adding nothing to the conversation since 1834.

>Test the Kanton's Dagger Thrashing Rope over in Test, it probably won't work because of the hum update.
I have, and it did work. Unless you mean there was an update to hum since the last time I was in test about a week or so ago. I had assumed that the song you were attempting had to be one that you would learn vocals from in order for the climbing to continue, i.e. if you had 100 in vocals and tried to hum a concerto you would fail the climbing, but that isn't the case. It did not factor into the climbing at all, as long as you hum a concerto (might as well) you will learn climbing/athletics.

I really hope that's not true since it means new NMUs would be unable to read the scrolls they find or effectively use enchanted items without rapidly burning through charges.

Yes, I'm hoping that's the case.

No such push exists, don't worry.
>>They probably haven't fixed the self activators, since no one's brought it up yet.
'Fixed' is tough. There are a lot of self-activating items in the game and at this point, all of the old ones are expiring. We're trying to find a good way to convert them but it's not a simple task.
