Overall, I'm really liking the 3.0 changes with regards to magic. One thing I'm slightly disappointed about however (probably because it was my favorite spell) is Fire Rain. Mechanics wise, it seems more effective, and I don't mind it being cyclic, although for some reason it's sort of bugging me stylistically.

Is there any way it could have it's attacks spread out over time like old style? For some reason (and maybe I'm just a nerd who thinks too much about this stuff) it no longer feels like it's raining. It feels like the pulsing Phoenix Pyre enchante. Which is exactly how RoS feels, as well as our instant cast AoE. I guess it's not a huge deal, and maybe I'm being overly picky, but all the AoE spells seem like different shades of the same spell.
