I actually agree to this one, If someone steals from someone and starts bragging then they pretty much just admitted to it...But the person cannot retaliate against them. Now they will be able to.

Now someone gets set to open, and they 'learn' from their mistake, and make every effort (successfully) not to redo that, after a day, a week, a month (perhaps more), can they set themselves to Closed or Guarded

Any chance a system of exceptions can be created for these system forced profile changes? Perhaps acts taken against a character who had you befriended or something wouldn't have any effect on your profile?
There are reasons beyond actual conflict why folk may attack or steal from another PC, from horsing around or a friendly spar to testing a new system or spell. Having your profile auto-changed because a friend wanted to see how effective his mantle of flame was at theft protection or how effective his new barrier spell was ... stinks.

CHALLENGE should circumvent the Profile system IMO.

Inclined to agree with this. I don't see why not.

Actually it would need to be a character who had befriended you to avoid abuse. Otherwise one could just befriend someone and start stealing.
But otherwise I like this idea. Would work for tourneys too. Just need to befriend the opposition and them likewise to keep profiles from getting changed.

You could always just get an open person to do that with.

The befriend list may not be good for tournaments, because it only has 10 slots and changes your entire demeanor toward that person. (I like to reserve my befriend slots for RP use.)

Why do so many folks feel it is ok to kill another PC, even a necro, with no consequences? This is mind boggling...

Thanks for the updates Hanryu.
No offense but if that first strike is the case it is going to severely limit any interest in pvp at all for those who are not already open and in the thick of it, now.
I mean killing a necro would set you to open, even if they were being obvious and blatant (and were open themselves) FYI necros currently have so many ways to escape being accused, unless you are standing at a guard in town and the necro is being slow, it has almost no chance. So many areas are not in town, that this option is fairly difficult to manage anyway.
(gwethsmashing someone even if they were insulting the gods, the provincial leaders or even being extremely OOC would set you to open.)
Killing someone who thumped, groped, you or your spouse, or insulted you would set you to open.
This seems to have a much greater potential for abuse and people becoming disinterested in RPing anything between a snuggle bunny and a hard core pvp throw down person. Both of which are extreme options and quite limiting, I would venture to say more people fall in the middle of these two play styles.
Okay, the point is many do not want to risk being killed by everyone because they have an enemy. Basically at post 100th circle if you do not get the first strike in you are dead.
Are they just going to go around and eliminate demeanors and befriend as well? So everyone can fondle, kill, slap, snog, tend and whatever else everyone else chaotically and constantly. Being a man, I doubt you are aware of how invasive it is to have your space infringed upon, in several ways. Text space if you RP matters as well.
I would also like to add, if they are going to make it so that gwethsmashing is setting someone to open, perhaps they need to institute mechanical consequences for gwething inappropriately.
Most people do not care to hear the exploits of the scullery maid, town drunk, village idiot or tavern wench assaulting their minds.
Further, in this setting people gwething or speaking out against the local ruler or Gods would likely be arrested or, executed or lynched.
I would like to further add that just because someone agrees to deal with or be involved in violence with someone else, does not mean they wish to do this with everyone, any more than the average person would run about kissing or whatever else everyone.
The fact that a good portion of the long term player base are adults, and some consider forms of violence intimate,is a reality.
More interactions need to fall under the flags or demeanor in my opinion, tending, tweaking, rubbing with an item, touching with tail, leaning etc.
I would also like to see an expansion of the befriend list, Premies should have 40-fifty imo, regular players should have 15-20 and interactions between players with a similar befriend to one another, be excluded from the forced -open mechanic.
If this intended proposal only applies to interactions within the city limits, then perhaps I am overreacting a small degree.
I still feel the gweths need to be examined, in this case, as well as looking at the entire RP aspect of the majority of the necro guild. If anything you do sets you to open anyway pretty much, how is the guild more challenging in any way?

The point being if you are willing to kill a PC then expect the same in return. You can ignore something, walk away, RP the conflict, or choose to act violently, if you choose the later there are consequences. Perhaps RP in a non violent way if you are not ok with PvP? If the other person first strikes you while you are RPing peacefully, then you wont be set open. Whats the issue?

Pretty much what i see going on and coming up is that if your acting as if you are OPEN they are simply going to just set you to open. There are more than a few people that like to hide behind their pvp stances thinking it offer's some kind of protection when in truth it doesn't. I think this change would eliminate alot of headache and prevent alot of these folks from getting into situations where they know they will have to face consequences.
As for necros, the aspect that everyone in the land hates you and wants you hanged for public display does offer a different challenge. For those who play for just fighting and no RP, sure its probably not much more challenging then walking around running your mouth at everyone. For someone who does enjoy role playing it is a guild you best be on your A game for sure.

^This. Personally I'd much rather staff spend their time working on events, systems, and such than having to hold hands because someone was hiding behind guarded or (even worse) closed and got deaded.
Having spent a year on three characters as pvp OPEN I think I've had one character killed twice by different people and that was just for laughs. It really isn't a bad way to go.
