I recently returned to DR after being gone for about 10 years and just today restored the account to premium.
I went to the prem island and bought a weapon rack in the cabin, but at the time I thought it was very strange that the item was given to me and not delivered to my home. I figured since the racks were new since I last bought furniture that's just how it worked and I went to my home, dropped it on the floor and logged off. To my surprise it was gone when I logged back in several hours later.
What did I do wrong? Is there a verb I have to use to place it in the home and make it permanent?

Without knowing what store you went to, it sounds like you bought vault furniture.
This furniture is handed to you and then you place it in your vault.
