Easy question I think. Certain items can only be purchased for certain homes, yes? If you move to a different neighborhood class (eg low class to upper class) what happens to those items? Do they remain or are they lost during the move?

When my character's husband went from a cottage to a Hall (rural middle-class to upper-class) all of his furniture moved along with him.

I believe you will lose the door (if it is a different class) as well as any exterior decoration.

You lose the door and the exterior (including extras like chimneys and wind chimes) no matter where you move. Everything else conveys.
