Isn't the objective to get someplace FASTER with a boat than by other means?

So far I have been in the same place for almost an hour, or so it seems...

[You are aboard the Nightblade's Claw which is afloat in The Reshal Sea facing south.]
[The Nightblade's Claw, Quarterdeck]
In the middle of the quarterdeck is the ship's wheel mounted on a slightly higher platform. Shrouds, running from mast to cleats on the bulwark, are ran overhead along with sheets from the ship's rigging. You also see Pilot Achupfo, a hatch, the ship's bell and a large spoked wheel.
Also here: Philosopher Schvartzgonif.
Obvious paths: none.
Ship paths: forward.
Nearby in the water you see: nothing special.

>command ach
Also, I can still be heard <via gweth> by people on m'riss.

headed first to hara'jaal, then headed toward the enclave, then the only thing south was open ocean, so commanded the pilot to head for that.

We can't command pilot to head "south" although he's headed in that direction.

The only ship commands are as follows:
Pilot Achupfo says, "I can help you in a number of ways, Captain."

COMMAND Achupfo TO SAIL FOR {location}
Available locations:
Crossing, Ratha, Riverhaven, Aesry, Mer'Kresh, Taisgath
Alfren's Tollbridge (Alfren's), North Road Ferry dock at Riverhaven (northferry)

COMMAND Achupfo TO SAIL TOWARDS {[adjective] noun}
Sail towards a visible ocean target
COMMAND Achupfo TO LAUNCH
Prepare the ship to unmoor.
COMMAND Achupfo TO MOOR [TO {target}]
Moor ship to target if possible.
COMMAND Achupfo TO TRIM
Have the ship's crew adjust the disposition of sails for maximum efficiency.
COMMAND Achupfo TO EASE |FULL|
Have the ship's crew adjust the sails to slow the ship.
FULL actually uses the anchor to add drag to ship, slowing it even further.
COMMAND Achupfo TO ANCHOR
Drop or pull up the ship's anchor.
COMMAND Achupfo TO UNLOCK WHEEL
Toggles the ship wheel's usage.
COMMAND Achupfo TO SET TITLE
Sets your rank's title.
COMMAND Achupfo TO ASSIGN {name|clear} {Master|Mate|Seaman}
Assign a position to someone. *Captain Only Command*
COMMAND Achupfo TO TOSS {name}
Removes someone from the ship. Only works while at dock.
COMMAND Achupfo TO GUARD
Guards the boarding plank, only allowing you onboard.
COMMAND Achupfo TO CANCEL
Cancel all current commands.

<achupfo is my pilot's name on my ship>

Pilot Achupfo says, "I can help you in a number of ways, Captain."

COMMAND Achupfo TO SAIL FOR {location}
Available locations:
Crossing, Ratha, Riverhaven, Aesry, Mer'Kresh, Taisgath

Once I knew what I was doing, it took me around 30-40 minutes to get to Fang Cove from Crossing. I believe I was piloting a Brig. Whatever the second-to-biggest ship size is.

>>We can't command pilot to head "south" although he's headed in that direction.

I don't know if there is more than one way to do it, but if I ever want to go somewhere very specific, I manually turned the wheel and then, once facing the direction I want to go in, make sure the wheel is centered and COMMAND X TO TRIM until hitting the speed I want.

I have a cutter <3rd fastest>, i've only had it turned right once <i'm facing south so, right would be towards the landmass, yes?>

and i have all sails trimmed to go fast as possible, although whatever speed i'm at it still "plows strongly through the water". And still seeing "nothing special", and still in the Reshal sea.

okay. finally at wolf's maw. but every time i try to go se, the pilot takes over and tries to go north. ::flail::

Pilot Achupfo says, "Captain, it appears we are having a bit of difficulty tacking in our current direction. Laying to and slowing."
Pilot Achupfo turns the wheel, making a course correction.
The Claw turns slowly as it changes its heading to the north.
Pilot Achupfo centers the wheel.

ok, this is rediculous.

ok, SW.

But that isn't working either.

The boat reaches a heading of due southwest.

>center wheel
You center the spoked wheel, bringing the rudder to amidship.

alright, i was going good for a few minutes, then the pilot changed directions on me.

So, i dropped anchor and i'm logging out. i gotta go to sleep, gotta work 2nite.

I give up.

it's quicker to run the boat to ratha and take the creature.

i'm not going to spend 4 hours on a boat to go somehwhere.

If you should go in a general southwest direction, and you can't go any further southwest or south, you might want to try a third option.

I will say that the first time I went it took me around 1 1/2 hours, because I was piloting blind and didn't get the perfect sense of how to move around just yet. I more than halved that time on my second trip.

Give it time, and don't freak out just because you're getting bumped around. It's a tricky route and you need to get a good feel of how to pilot your way around before you are able to really get there quickly.

As I said, it's not a four hour trip, but unless you know exactly what to do it won't be super-fast until you figure out where you're supposed to go. It's one of those situations where, once you know the route, it's a fast route, but until you know what you're doing it'll probably take more time due to trial/error. I have a feeling that things were just as tricky when people were figuring out how to dock at Hara'jaal, too.

Depending on your timing/luck, you can get to Fang Cove via Crossing quicker than you can get there from Ratha.

I dropped anchor when I logged out. which meant my boat wasn't supposed to move. When i logged back in i was at the crossing docks. What the hell?

That'd be something in the boat system itself, unrelated to the trip to FC. I've got no info on that, sorry.

If the pilot is turning you around to the north, then you're essentially running off the edge of the known ocean, so to speak. At that point, you should be looking side to side. I know it's reachable and everything is right -- I sailed it myself and watched Uzmam do it in Plat, and she did it again when I wasn't around as well.

It is difficult to find, though.

That is an automated feature if you log out for too long anchored to the sea, and not something. Also happens if you have no destination when you logged out, you're pilot will auto sail back to the crossing pretty soon.

guess i'll wait until there's a regular sea-route then. For me it was 4 hours of wasted effort.

The first time getting there is always difficult. There might not ever be a regular sea-route. It's not that hard of a trip, you just need to know how to use the ship system itself. My biggest difficulties when trying to get there my first time was thinking I could find a faster route than what the GM instructed us to do, and not really ever using ships myself until that day. Once I decided to better follow instructions and I got a better understanding of how to manually pilot the ship, things went very smooth and very quick.
