'Twas the night before Chris' Mass, when all through the land
Not a creature was stirring, even in the Dark Hand.
The quiet of night was a blanket of black
As the stars held their breath, their light falling back.

The children were curled all up in their beds
With visions of ribbons, red and green, in their heads.
Saragos in his night-coat, and I in my gown
Were settled to sleep in the softest of down.

When out on the street there arose such a sight
We sprang to the door, toward a blinding bright light.
And what to our wondering eyes did appear
But a brilliant white Mass, its lines sharp and clear.

And a little old Trader, so lively and quick,
Blinked once and performed an incredible trick!
A siphon of light upturned like a chalice,
Surrounded, as he was, by this aurora borealis.

His image, it shimmered in a liquid-like haze
As he smiled and bathed in the stars' many rays.
Luminescent red fish flickered up from the ground,
Dancing and frisking and surely spellbound.

All of a sudden, aglitter he froze,
As around him a crystalline armor arose!
He turned to me then and gave me a wink,
'I'm going to like this new contract, I think!'

He sprang to his cart, to his team gave a whistle,
and away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
Happy Chris' Mass to all, and to all a good night!
