Finally!
>Wait, what is a token auction?
A token auction levels the field somewhat over traditional auctions where the person (or persons) with the biggest bank accounts win all the items. With a token auction, each account is allowed ONE token. You then use that token to bid on an item you're most interested in. When the bids have concluded, the auctioneer selects at random from those who bid. The person selected wins the item and the auctioneer keeps his/her token. Everyone else who didn't win gets their token back to bid on other items.
>When is the auction?
The token auction will be held in Prime on Sunday, May 29 @ 9pm ET. Plat will be at the same time, on Monday.
>How do I get a token?
Tokens are available for purchase from a friendly clerk, who can be found behind a ricepaper door in the auction hall -- Just ask him about tokens!
>What's it cost?
The cost is 10 Grooba coins, and you can buy one token per account.
>How many items will there be?
There will be approximately 25 items up for auction, and all will be on display inside the hall sometime Saturday morning.
>Anything fancy?!
For now, here are some examples:
* some blue-white ice-veined leathers: A new material -- ice-veined leather is a Kaldar special material that is cold to the touch and often has a blue-white or white-blue shimmer or color. It has unique interactions with some verbs and also occasionally sends atmospheric messages.
* a squat stone box: A set of 10x infuser stones to keep your magical items fully charged!
* a flawless crystal box: A set of 10x potency crystals to upgrade your magical items to their full potential!
* a spider-shaped voucher: Your choice of one (1) of any of the previous Hollow Eve special gifts (i.e. god totem, reaper, mask, etc.)
* an iridescent silk bag: A set of four (4) small iridescent cubes each containing 200 charges of a portable sanctuary!
* a cambrinth winged-pig pendant: A high capacity (100 mana) worn cambrinth!
* a gleaming silversteel skillet: A magical skillet that you can WAVE over open fire or home fireplace. This particular skillet will create delicious slices of thick bacon. Eat bacon FOREVAR!
* a vardite tower shield: A Tier 6 large shield with extra verbs!
* a copper repair kit: A wearable item that can magically repair all weapons and armor on you once every 24 hours!
* a windsteel pigsticker: A Tier 6 (density 4) Heavy Edge weapon!
* a small glass bottle: This contains the model of your new galleon! And not just any galleon .. this one has a (door-type) home on it. Yes, that's right, it's a houseboat!
> What happens if I don't win an item?!
Fear not! After the auction has concluded, if you still have a token you can redeem it for a sanowret crystal.
> What the heck is a sanowret crystal?!
They are magical crystals imbued with knowledge, based on the workings of an Aechedi crystal. Sanowret crystals both teach the Arcana skill (regardless of guild and skill) and come with extensive notes about one of nine topics of magic theory.
To use it, one merely gazes upon the crystal while fully concentrated and absorbs the knowledge therein. Arcana is learned as the notes on magic theory progress, over the course of approximately half a minute. The amount of Arcana experience granted scales upward with your skill.
This is a permanent item, without needing to be recharged. NMUs can use them. It consumes Concentration to use. The initial lecture the crystal is prepared with is random, though more may be unlocked with Potency Crystals.
This is a special sneak-preview of the sanowret crystals, which are scheduled for general release after Hollow Eve 2016.

Thanks for the info! Gotta admit I'm kinda stoked for the sanowret crystal. It sounds like extremely my jam.
I would also like to yet again petition for a demonic-themed totem option usable by Necromancers. The god totems are by far the best HE gift IMO and it sucks knowing I wouldn't be able to use one :\

Would be neat if Necros could reset their DO/SO/SRE/CRE cooldown timers via demonic pact.
Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

That'd be a good replacement for the free favor option, yeah.
The totem itself could easily just be Maelshyvean-themed since that's kinda her jam.

I would think if anything, making a demonic pact would massively increase DO/SO, not decrease it. That would also mean that whatever demon you were making a pact with could directly influence you upon this plane. Sounds pretty disastrous for everyone, necromancer included.

<<Thanks for the info, answers my question as it's a no go for Barbs as far as being something that useful to us.
That is an incorrect conclusion to make. Enchanting skill created items will have some items that require only Arcana skill to use. Barbarians will not be locked out of these ones unless they choose not to learn the skill. This item will be a way to train the skill outside of classes for those Barbarians that choose to go this route. For those Barbarians that do not want to go this route then yes, it will likely not be that useful of an item for them.

>Yeah... I gotta say that if F2P can participate... that really would suck.. and kinda defeat the purpose of a token auction.
In general, F2P people are still paying 10$ per token. And 1$ for an admission slip.
That's about the best Simu can do to limit abuse. If someone is willing to pay 11$ for a token they are more than likely also willing to pay 26$ for a token (i.e. 15$ subscription + 10$ token + 1$ admission slip).
I mean, just looking at the current raffle tickets, there are several people who have already dropped a few hundred bucks on raffles.
For purely 'show up and get token' events, I agree F2P should probably be excluded. But this is a pay to enter pay to play auction.

>>An F2P character that has attained level 10 or higher can participate.
I'll add my opinion to the pile that this is a rather poor decision. I know it benefits Simu to be able to rake in all those extra $11 purchases, but from a player perspective this is definitely going to be abused. 10th circle is far too easily achieved (even with slowed exp) and for an auction that is meant to finally level the playing field, you're still setting the stage for the same kind of alt abuse we've seen at every other auction in the past.
>>If someone is willing to pay 11$ for a token they are more than likely also willing to pay 26$ for a token (i.e. 15$ subscription + 10$ token + 1$ admission slip).
While I agree, I'd still prefer to make those that are planning on doing this dig a little deeper to make it feasible, as well as potentially halving the amount of alts that they'd be gaming the system with.
>befriend clear all
You are now friendless.

>for an auction that is meant to finally level the playing field
This is a multi-layered statement, and I think you're interpreting the intention the wrong way.
This auction (and ones similar) are typically aimed at leveling the playing field of in-game money, not the playing field of alt abuse.
There's basically nothing Simu could do to stop alt abuse. IP checks? Proxy or VPN to bypass. Email? I can make a dozen 'real' accounts in a few seconds, let alone using self destruct emails. Credit card checks? I can walk down to the 711 or Amazon and pick up a 15$ pack for 15$ each.
All of these don't catch anyone who isn't stupid, can be worked around in a few minutes, and require a not-insignificant staff involvement. Because false positives will need to be ID'ed and resolved ASAP, you can't lock out 'valid' paying customers. I'm not throwing the baby out with the bathwater; I just think it's a strange point, when someone is willing to invest nearly 30$ to have a possible chance at winning a text based squirrel in a 20 year old game. I honestly say let them. I've got better things to spend real life money on, but we all have hobbies.

I'm aware of the numbers. Having to pay for a subscription will hurt their wallet over twice as much (per token), rather than having 2 F2P accounts that can be two more admissions for the price of a subscription based token. I am on board with this.

Given that the GMs seem to be very data-driven these days, I would extremely surprised if GMs can't tell if someone is trying to game the system and respond accordingly.
Along with it being poor sportsmanship in general, I think it would be very dumb to believe that [general] you can circumvent the 1 per account rule and get away with it.
GMs aren't dumb, folks.

Will these crystals be transferable?
Also would be nice to raid the prior auctions from the past and add some things from them to the list. That way more items are out there so more people can likely have something to bid on and it would ease the burden of having to brsinstorm new things, code them in, quality control them, and such.
I would like to see some vouchers for LTB points or something. I really would like one of the premium spell preps.

I think it would be neat to see some newer auction items make a return, but I also want to point out that the raffle (mainly HE from my experiences) and treasure map pools have also gotten older auction items re-introduced through them, as well. I've sometimes found things that were from auctions from the Ice Fest age.

They are not a physical item. Asking the clerk for a second one makes him tell you that you already have one.

Crystal question:
The release notes mention potency crystals in relation to 'notes'. Can I assume that more notes means more learning? I ask because I will plan on buying potency crystals to unlock mine if so.
The release also mentions that this is a pilot for HE release. Will these crystals be functionally identical, superior, or inferior, to HE versions? I ask because Simu has asked for a lot of money this year already, and I don't think I can afford to buy potency crystals to unlock my current crystal, only to find out that the one from HE is 2-10 times better because it's the HE 'item' this year while this crystal is a boobie prize for the auction.
I know you guys don't set out to screw the players, so I don't think you're sitting there cackling in your Scrooge McDuck pile of coins. Just asking if the plan is for the HE release to be functionally better than this one so I can allocate my pitiful gaming funds accordingly.
Because I really want to train arcana on my thief :).

>>The release notes mention potency crystals in relation to 'notes'. Can I assume that more notes means more learning? I ask because I will plan on buying potency crystals to unlock mine if so.
Additional lectures don't increase learning, they just provide information about different subjects. (There's also a 'quiet' mode that doesn't spam you the lecture if you're just in it for the Arcana).
>>The release also mentions that this is a pilot for HE release. Will these crystals be functionally identical, superior, or inferior, to HE versions?
After HE, not during HE, and they'll function identically. The main value added is that this is a 'sneak preview' of an item that was otherwise not going to be in release-condition until later this year.
