GuildFest Auction (DR Prime)
When
Fri, June 9, 9pm – 10pm
People have repeatedly posted and commented their derision for auctions that are bid wars. Often the bidding is raised so astronomically high that even characters who have done nothing but hunt for hours a day 7 days a week on the most deadly creatures cannot buy a single item. There is even a running gag for how long it takes for the items to show up on drsales. I know some of this has been remedied with bound items.
At Hollow's Eve raffles are used effectively to distribute items fairly, all have an equal chance.
Guild fest is a community event meant to include everyone. Especially as a finale of the festival for the majority population.
But an auction just feels like an exclusion measure meant to be a coin dump for the haves and a drooling party for the have not.
If there must be a coin dump for those bursting with coinage why not also have raffles? It would incentivize an audience for the auction and at the same time make them part of the fun.

Events are not all intended to be the same.
>>Guild fest is a community event meant to include everyone. Especially as a finale of the festival for the majority population.
Everyone being able to access an event doesn't mean everyone is supposed to be guaranteed to get high end items from that event.
>>But an auction just feels like an exclusion measure meant to be a coin dump for the haves and a drooling party for the have not.
To be blunt, that's exactly what an auction is, if you choose to view it in the most cynical light as possible. It's also an event that gives a chance for people with a lot of in-game currency to have a chance to win high-end items without any out-of-game expense, and an event where people with or without a lot of in-game currency can socialize and/or see what types of neat high-end stuff they could choose to try to save up for in the future.
Exclusion isn't by default a bad thing. It's not a failure or a wrong to have events or items that can only be participated in/achieved by some characters at any given time.
>>If there must be a coin dump for those bursting with coinage why not also have raffles? It would incentivize an audience for the auction and at the same time make them part of the fun.
Raffles are entirely different from auctions, and one has no bearing on the other. Also, the fact that rarer items are available at the HE raffles is entirely a function of it being a pay event and is not indicative of the types of items that would be available in raffles at a free event. The way those raffles work is part of the pay event itself. I think you might be conflating extremely different things here.
GF doesn't have raffles, but it does have other things. If you're looking for events where people without a lot of coins can get items, GF absolutely has those. There have already been alterations that were given away for free, and a cooking competition that was entirely RP-based where people won prizes that are higher-end. There's a live game scheduled tonight in Prime that doesn't require coins where people can win a type of alteration. There's the two different catching games that get run at different times throughout the festival, and the prizes that can be won in that range from neat things to fairly sought-after items as well. That doesn't cost coins either.

<Everyone being able to access an event doesn't mean everyone is supposed to be guaranteed to get high end items from that event.
Granted which is why a fair and honest raffle is so inclusive. Everyone who comes may participate and enjoy if nothing else the suspense of the draw.
<To be blunt, that's exactly what an auction is
In that case, rather than forcing people without the means to only be able to participate in a witness capacity wouldn't it be better for the community to have a raffle?
As it is now, in my opinion your festival finale days is two exclusion events. One for wealth and one for Barbs (the branding), relegating the rest of us to spectators.
Where is the "hook" everyone keeps talking about to participate for the poor and non-barbs instead of just read the log pasted to the forums after the event?
<I think you might be conflating extremely different things here.
I don't think I am. Everyone who attends guild fest in Therengia is a paying customer. True there is no ADDITIONAL fee to access this festival but people all did pay to attend.
You could use raffles and lower the quality of the items, though I'm not sure why you would.
Or you could include everyone and make a portion of the auction a raffle.
Participation would be through the roof, and there would be no greater thank you to all your customers for their continued support.
<neat high-end stuff they could choose to try to save up for in the future
Also I would like to know what niche market of player this is you are alluding to. 200th circle characters who hunt end game creatures 10-15 hours a day 7 days a week for months cannot compete in these auctions.
Thanks for replying!

What you are asking for is not within the scope of Guildfest. Every event is different. Guildfest does not have raffles and is not intended to have raffles, it has other types of events.
Not every sort of event will appeal to every player or every character, and they are not intended to.
If you are not interested in the auction or any other event that you feel is more spectator-y for your character, then that event isn't/those events aren't for you :) I'd suggest you check out any of the many other events going on during the festival, both scheduled and otherwise.
Any further discussion about adding raffles to GF should be taken over to the Equine Cemetery.
