Over the next week or so, I'll be releasing some basic information regarding the primary Zoluren Nobility and their place in the grand scheme of things. And to begin we have...

House Linlaig is the lone House of Zoluren nobility to reside south of the Segoltha. The House is not the wealthiest in the province, but it is one of the most self-sufficient. Drawing heavily on the neighboring Forest and River Elves as inspiration, the Linlaig's produce a staggering amount of hunters and trackers. Their crest is a leaping pink nomlas against a great spreading banyan tree. Currently led by Yallance Linlaig.

House Tanglefoot is the only Zoluren noble family to found and then control an entire city. While small in size, the Tanglefoot family is arguably one of the most wealthy Trading families in the province. Their crest is a gilded taffelberry branch against a field of purple rolling hills. The Halflings of House Tanglefoot are currently led by patriarch Woolly.

The First Provincial Council

Re-established shortly after the fall of the Empire and ressurection of the Zoluren Monarchy, the First Provincial Council is the ruling body behind the Prince and/or Princess of Zoluren. The seven seats are filled by the great noble houses of the province, with the Chair of the council appointed by the current ruling House. The Council is charged with the running of the mundane day to day activities as well as advising the ruling House on various matters of import.

The current council is seated by:

Yallance Linlaig
Woolly Tanglefoot (Chair)
Irsten Magen
Veahmic Turmar
Nedenn Verille
Myerin Chelochi
Viere Denesal

Seven of the eight the Great Houses are Human, with the exception being the Tanglefoot family.

HOUSE TURMAR

The Turmar family is the youngest of the great Zoluren houses, having only been elevated to the position after much controversy over their proof of bloodline. Rumors flew during the deliberations, including one accusing the patriarch of the family of using large sums of platinum to get others to ignore the possibility that the family's bloodline was actually of the Tirof family. The Turmar lands are harsh, covering the lowlands surrounding the Greater Fist, but are rich in precious mineral and gem deposits. Their crest is a silver dagger rising from the flames of the Greater Fist. The Human house is currently led by Veahmic Turmar.

House Magen

House Magen, while not as old as House Denesal, is what one would consider 'old money' in Zoluren political and social circles. The family dedicates a large portion of their vast resources to developing and accruing creative arts and artists. The only Zoluren house that is always headed by the matriarch of the family, the Magen's don't just flaunt their money, they showcase it to its ostentatious fullness. The Magen lands spread north from Kaerna all the way to the Southern Therengian border, having also absorbed the Alshaerd lands into their own after the Greater Fist disaster. Their crest is a golden paintbrush sprouting a bouquet of Zoluren forest iris in full bloom. The Human house is currently led by Irsten Magen.

House Denesal

House Denesal is one of the two original Great Noble families of Zoluren. The powerful farming family is most well known for their part in the restoration of the Zoluren monarchy after the removal of the Dragon Priests. The Denesal lands encompass the area surrounding Tiger clan, and specialize in corn crops. This last bit has earned them the moniker 'Corn Lords' in less polite company. While not quite as large as in its early years, House Denesal still carries siginifcant weight within the political structure of Zoluren. Their crest is silver crescent moon against a field of green. The Human house is currently led by Viere Denesal.

House Verille

House Verille has quietly gained power over the years and is another house that focuses on a specific crop: They grow soldiers. The family administers Zoluren's premier military academy - The Compound. This fact has earned them a seat on the council as well as a large amount of political influence. Their lands run south from Knife Clan to include the areas west and south of Wolf clan. House Verille's crest is a simple buckler protecting a field of brilliant white gladiolus blossoms on an azure background. The current leader of The Compound and the family is Kaith Alreid Nedenn Verille.

House Chelochi

House Chelochi is one of the two original Great Noble families of Zoluren. Well respected for previous contributions as leaders of Zoluren as well as their blood connection to the current rulers, the Chelochi family is just as famous for their large shipping fleet. With access to the Reshal sea via a small bay east of Stone Clan, the family retains a quick and reasonably safe route to the island of Ratha. The Chelochi lands stretch from just south of Stone Clan all the way north to the southern border of Therengia. Their crest is a gladiola-masted galleon afloat in a sea of green. The house is currently headed by Myerin Chelochi.

House Sorvendig

The most well known of Zoluren's Great Houses, House Sorvendig currently rules from the throne in Ulf'Hara Keep. The family gained power and influence the old fashioned way: by force and by marriage. They have strengthened their royal bloodline by marrying into House Chelochi, House Tirof, the Morzindu Weyato, the Andreshlew nation, and a coupling with then rival House Alshaerd. When marriage didn't work, they resorted to underhanded political machinations and even rumored accounts of those with dissenting opinions disappearing after visits to the Sorvendig estates. The family lands encompass the city of Rivercrossing and its surrounding environs. Their crest features a raven clutching a sheaf of grain (sometimes pictured as a sheath filled with grain). The current ruler of Zoluren is Princess Arilana Sorvendig, until Belirendrick Sorvendig IV comes of age.
